does mgs4 get more gameplay and less cinematics as you go through it?

Hi,

I recently got mgs4 and started to play it the other night.

What I found was, the game had to install, download, load etc so after about 20mins it was ready to play. well so I thought. I first tried mgs4 online but it came up saying console needed update. it was only updated the week before. so I went to single player.

After another long time, it loaded up and what i found was a lot of cinematics, followed by a very short game play, more loading, cinematics, then I get to run arround for a few minutes hiding from those machines that shoot and kick you. then more loading, cinematics and finally got to the stage where you have to run arround and hide from the enemy troops.

does this game get any better or should I sell it now and cut my losses?

thanks

A lot of cutscenes will be longer than the ones at the begining but there is also a lot more gameplay.

Keep in mind the first part is the intro and in a game with a lot of story its bound to have a lot of cutscenes just look at most RPGs.

You will see Alot more Cutscense, Kojima just went stupid and made cutscenes even for casual codec talks. its 50% gamplay and 50% cutscenes.

I rather have a 5m cutscene over a 5m codec call but that is just my opinion.

Sounds like this is your first Metal Gear Solid game......

MGS4 is anwsome game that has a very deep story, yes you will see a lot of cuscenes, but you will also get your good share of gameplay. The best part about the agme play is you have many different ways to play, you can be stealthy, or you can go shoot the #@%@ outta enemies!

If you are not into the story or if you just don't like cutscenes, then go ahead and sell it, otherwise enjoy it.

Lots of cutscenes but lots of fun gameplay. I hope you've played 1, 2 and 3 or the cutscenes might be kinda grueling.

Or you could skip them like one of my colleagues at work who hasn't played the previous ones. But of course the game had no meaning to him like it would someone who played through the previous games.

My friend let me borrow his copy this past week and I just finished the game this morning. It took about ten days, but I must say that those ten days of gaming were some of the best I've had in a long time. Some of the cut scenes are really emotional and I often found myself getting really into them; much more so than previous MGS games. Its almost as if the they're given to you as a reward for going through a few minutes of game play. I was a little disappointed with the end though. It made me feel like Kojima just needed a way to quickly tie up all the ends. I felt like there should have been something else, something more.. idk.

It's a fantastic game that is definately worth a playthrough. MGS4 isn't everyones cup of tea though. You'll need to sit through some seriously long cutscenes if you want to follow the story properly.
But in the end, there's some great gameplay to be had.

I say give it a bit more of a chance before you sell it. But it's your choice in the end.

Me and a friend were discussing this a few weeks ago and we've come to the conclusion that the game is like 50/50 in terms of gameplay to cutscene amount. Though certain Acts have a different consistancy. Though to sum it up the beginning and end naturally have the most cutscenes while the middle has the most gameplay. This is fairly better than the on off on off consistency of the previous games that left you with too many cutscenes far too often.

You should'nt be playing a mgs game if you can't handle the long confusing dialogues and the long cinematics... might as well sell it if you're not a story person. That being said, if the cinematics do bug you a lot and still want to play, you can always skip all of them and stick purely to the gameplay. But once again, a mgs experience revolves a lot around it's story line. I suggest you play mgs1-3 first before tackling 4 so you can get into the habbit. would help you better appreciate and understand 4.

Only if you rush through the game.

A normal player, should get more or less 20 hours total time (average) during their first play through. The final gameplay time depends on what kind of gamer you are.

Replays without cutscenes can take 5 hours, if you know every enemy position and evade them efficiently, or more, it just depends on your play methods.

Id at least finish the game, if they bother you so much then just skip the cutscenes. MGS4 is the GOTY (havent played LBP), but its not the holy grail some leave you to believe. I was very engrossed the first play through (i have a fairly good understanding of MGS universe),, but on the second play through i was very disappointed at how little you actually get to play.

The amount of cutscenes only increases unfortunately,, the final act has very little gameplay

I cut my losses and sold the game after I finished Act II. I got $55 out of the game selling to a student. I don't regret this decision in the least, as I picked up the RFOM and a few PSN games.

It looks like its your first MGS. Long cinematic between gameplay are part of what defines the series. It's ok, though... Not everybody has to like the same games.

If you didn't like that, maybe you should return it, because you will get a lot more cutscenes... And longer too.

I found that the cinematics increased the more you progressed throughout the game. The first two acts offer a lot of gameplay, but Act 3 ? Act 4 is actually pretty good in those regards, but I thought Act 5 was short.

Sell it now. It's like that, rinse and repeat through just about the entire game. Trust me, and trust yourself. Everybody here is going to tell you how amazing it is, game of the generation etc. The truth is, you'll know right away if the game is for you or not. I was so frustrated going through the entire game, and it never grew on me.

Horrible pacing to the game. Between cutscenes and installs, it takes you out of the action way too much. 5-8 cutscenes in a row is absolutely brutal.

Me and a friend were discussing this a few weeks ago and we've come to the conclusion that the game is like 50/50 in terms of gameplay to cutscene amount. Ket87

You have got to be joking. I'd say if you played through skipping cutscenes and knew what you were doing. There isn't more than 5-6 hours of gameplay total.

I'm not knocking the game so don't be offended. I have nothing against anybody who enjoyed it. Just saying it definitely wasn't for me.
