mine came off a pair of times i just put it back there and it hasn't come off for a long time. i think it was cus i had the psp in my bag wihtout it's protector.
you can take it off, and put a bigger one on, i did, and i think it caused the whole joystick to break, i couldnt even play my games, the whole thing tore off, even the pin inside the system, so dont take it off, you will probably ruin it.
the actual joystick? no, but the cap on it yes. but that was my fault for pulling on it cuz i think the joystick is worn out, and it doesnt slide smoothly so its kinda resistant when i try and move it around after a few minutes of playing.
