Component video is not HD only you can use it on a standard definition TV.  In fact component video will give you the best quality picture you can get on a SDTV.

The yellow red and white as you call them, or composite video to the rest of us - is close to being the crapiest you can get!

It comes with Red & White for Audio, Yellow for Video Composite cables.

Component cables are also Red & White for Audio, but instead of just yellow for Video, it's Green, Blue, and Red for Video.

You do meant to put SDTV, right? SDTV stands for standard, is normal TV. Non HD.

"ED" refers to Enhanced Definition, which is 480p. SD is 480i.

I bought a new TV a few months ago, so I had to become an AV nerd to make sure I bought a good one.

hahaha. i think your the one that has no clue about tvs. From working at a home theater speacialty store, Component cables are hd and are capable of signals 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p. Composite cables are the worst of them all, doing 480i. HDMI cables are not the only hd cables. You should look things up before you type.

You work with HT and you didn't know that standard definition TVs supported component video?  FFS are you joking?

You might want to read this.  Let me quote it for you:

There are three basic kinds of DVD players. First, there are those that have composite and S-video outputs only. Second, there are those that have composite, S-video, and component video interlaced (480i) outputs. Finally, there are those that have composite, S-video, and two forms of component video? component interlaced (480i) and component progressive (480p) outputs.

For the vast majority of DVD users who don't have component capability in either their players or their display systems, the next best thing is S-video. If you are one of the large majority of DVD enthusiasts who are running composite video out of your DVD player and inadvertently degrading the picture as a result, give yourself a quality upgrade--get an S-video cable as soon as possible.

OMFG you can get a DVD player with 480i component yet component is only HD?

Thanks for proving you have no clue, move on... you're done!

Nah seriously you work with home theatre and you didn't know this?  Come on you work at McDonalds right?

To quote the young people you just got owned!

edit: just noticed you've posted once... lol, are you the other guy trying to make everyone think you know what you are talking about?

edit 2: just because I'm feeling nasty now I'm going to post to this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7631226&type=product&id=1130986501338)... I wonder what it is?  Wait it's a Sharp 27" Standard Definiton TV with Component Input.

NAH SERIOUSLY YOU WORK WITH HT?  LMFAO you've made my day!

wow your an idiot. I was saying Component CAN do HD(high definition). You were saying component cant! Where did i say that component is only HD? I dont think you even know what the hell you were even typing. so please dont give out false information to people.

here is what you said

"Component video isnot HD only you can use it on a standard definition TV. In fact component video will give you the best quality picture you can get on a SDTV"

I was just saying that component can do hd. thats why i listed those resolutions.

just because it can display nonhd content doesnt mean its not hd

your knowledge of tvs just made my day, thank you.

it comes with a COMPOSITE cable, that is, a yellow (video), white (left audio channel), and red (right audio channel)....

You have to buy COMPONENT cable to use it for HD TVs (or an HDMI cable)... the official sony one is around $20

Wow man, for working at a "home theater specialty store", you sure know nothing about TVs. Read the f***ing PS3 manual for christ's sake. It shows component working on 480i, which is SD. You do realize most new SDTVs come with component inputs right? Jackass.

Did you just put in bold what I said originally?  That component video is not HD only?  Did you even read the post I was originally replying to?  The one where the guy says component can't even plug in to a SDTV?  You've got your knickers in a knot trying to make yourself look good but you haven't even taken the time to notice you have made yourself look like an idiot.

I'm done with this thead all I was doing originally was pointing out that component video works on both SD and HD TV which you will actually see if you read anything here, rather than chiming in like a big man... I work with HT I know everything... unfortunately you came across as a tool!
