I am seriously thinking on buying a PS3 or a Xbox 360.

But I've read a lot of complaints on the Xbox 360 hardware. Not only RRoD problems! it seems the 360 hardware is horrible, so, I would like to know if the PS3 has any of those issues, so I can choose which plataform to buy.

The ps3 hardware can just wipe all your data in it for some reason. It had happened to mine ,so better if you back it up every month or so.;)

Not much of frequent issues more like the price of fixing it after your warrenty expires. :P It can break sometimes.

But the console doesn't break suddenly like the X360, right? I have to know, because I live in Brazil, and I intend to buy it in the US (it costs 4 times more here) so I won't have any warranty.

I believe the chances of your ps3 breaking are very very very low. Indeed not like the 360 which has the famous red ring of death.

Thanks a lot for the fast replies! ;)

So I think it's decided..... it doesn't break suddenly, it plays Blu-Ray, it has great exclusives and every single game in my priority list will be available for the console, I'll buy a PS3, just waiting for the price drop in September (my aniversary is in september! SWEET!)

You're asking this in a PS3 forum and I'm sure that you asked the same question in the Xbox 360 forum. I'm going to be completely honest, as long as the PS3 works out of the box, it will continue to work so long as you treat it right. I'm sure you could say that about the Xbox 360 but it has about a 1/3 chance (based on others' estimates, not my own) of failing even with proper care. I've had my PS3 for over a year and I have never had an issue with it besides the resetting of all my custom folders on the PS3 (left all my files with their original names and no folders). When you compare that to the issues that are commom with the Xbox 360 you can make the decision for yourself.

Ive heard of a couple that are very rare though. These include the bluray diode stopping from functioning and memory loss, loosing all data..

Weird occurances some ppl may have. Dont know, but those are about it. Other than that it is a great system worth investing in. A lot less problems than the competition

Some things that people overlook about the 360 are the noise it makes and the frankly dreadful disc tray. The 360 is so noisy i had to turn my tv up twice as loud as when I did when playing my PS2 (and people said THAT was loud) and the disc tray feels like it will snap when you change the disc. The PS3 is almost silent, and there is no disc tray. Problems which dont seem so bad on paper, but when it comes to owning the console gets really annoying after a few months.

I have a few questions on the PS3 too, I'll just number then ;)

1. Which version should I get, the 80GB one or the 40GB?

2. Does the PS3 come with internal Wi-Fi adapter, or do I have to buy it?

3. Do I have to pay to use the PSN?

4. Does anyone know when FFXII comes out?

5. Does the PS3 come with those HD-TV cables?

I have a few questions on the PS3 too, I'll just number then ;)

1. Which version should I get, the 80GB one or the 40GB? If you want to play PS2 and PS1 games on it you'll need the 80GB. If not, the 40GB. Which plays PS1 games anyway.

2. Does the PS3 come with internal Wi-Fi adapter, or do I have to buy it? Inbuilt. You wont need to buy it.

3. Do I have to pay to use the PSN?No it's free.

4. Does anyone know when FFXII comes out?I assume you mean FFXIII, and I don't know myself sorry.

5. Does the PS3 come with those HD-TV cables? No.

Hope I was of some help.

Another thing with the 360 disc tray is a lot of my friends have got their discs scratched. When you put a game in, it will say "disk is unreadable".

Thanks a lot! You guys in the forum really helped me, in the brazilan forums, no one would.....

I just have one more question. Does the PS3 come with headset?

And the most important question of all....

.... Are you guys happy with the PS3? Serious. Cause I bought a Wii, and I am seriously dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, I like my Wii, but those casual games really, really piss me off

The headset comes separately, I'm pretty sure. I'm really happy with it. I don't own a PS2 and I got the MGS4 bundle, so I can catch up on a few games. I'm afraid I've never been a Wii fan, as soon as they revealed the Wiimote.

i have no regrets now in buying a ps3. PSN is really improving too. The games on the ps3 appeal to me more than the 360 tho.

One thing the PS3 definitely is not is casual. If thats your reason for disliking the Wii, you'll probably like the PS3.

Sometimes thing in life malfunction. The problem is how often and the cost. I have seen and heard more complaints on the GlitchBox(XBox) than the PS3. I did considerable research and the PS3 is th better of the two for reliability and hardware.

Dont listen to this guy, hes a troll. Its his 1st post. Anyways, if it did have a hardware issuse it would be on all the game websites. However, the ps3s failure rate is less than .05 percent. So the chances of the PS3 craping on you are very very very very rare. If you do get any issuse Sony will fix it for you for free no questions asked.

I bought a 40gb PS3 just before they discontinued it (the one that sold with Spider-Man Blu Ray) and it just kept freezing on me. But for some odd reason, when i first updated it, it hasn't happenned to me since. But honestly I'm very happy with it. It was just the beginning that was so bad for me. Overall I'm satisfied.

I bought a PS3 after my elite rrod within 5 months waited 6 weeks on the refurb they sent and was not in acceptable shape considering it cost a half grand. I could not be happier with my decision. If you like shooters SOCOM will be bundled with a headset. You have to buy the HDMI cable. WiFi built in. You can upgrade the harddrive with any sata laptop drive! I have owned my 40gig for about 4 months and I havnt had even a freeze yet. I never noticed how often the 360 freezes (mainly Forza2) until I got my PS3, seriously!

Well, no point in getting the HDTV ad-on that 360 offers... if you want just high def movies alone then PS3 all the way. Besides Ps3 pretty much has all the same games as 360... and if you want to look at the comparison... well you miss out on Halo and Gears of War. They're both pretty good games but to me everyting else makes it worth it.... Like they said at

E3 they plan another console for a ten year run. this most likely has value beyond that of a 360... I have both... and well, Xbox still only realy has Xbox Live which you pay for anyways to really beat it if that... I hear PS3 communities are getting just as good

So the failure rate for the PS3 is smaller than 1%? People say the 360's failure rate is about 10% (even in the newer versions), so it's a huge diference. Well, I think I'll buy a PS3.

As for the Wii, I've always been a hardcore gamer, but I've always been a huge Nintendo fanboy. I used to support Nintendo in whatsoever they did, but seriously, I can't take it anymore with the Wii! the only interesting game comming out this year is ToS2.

You're asking this in a PS3 forum and I'm sure that you asked the same question in the Xbox 360 forum. I'm going to be completely honest, as long as the PS3 works out of the box, it will continue to work so long as you treat it right. Just stay away from the 360. I use to have one. It gave me disk read errors and it finally died. I took good care of it too. It even had plenty of air flow in my open a/v rack. That system was rushed out the door. Heck it's even held togehter with plastic parts!

Nothing major. But since the PS3 is basically similar to a computer, it'll sometimes freeze or wait a long time before something loads, but that rarely happens. It probably only happens when you cancel an installation.

i have a 360 and a wii and and now looking into getting a ps3

the 360 has major hardware flaws i have seen it mentioned that the failure rate is around %30

i personally know 15 people with a 360 and everyone of them have had thiers die to me that makes it 100% failure rate

all you need to do is goto the xbox.com offical company forums and you will see over half the posts there are about faulty consoles.

if you buy a 360 it will break im on my 6th as they dont give you a new console they send you a referbushed

so if you really like getting boxes from ups then the 360 is the way to go , the ups truck will be infront of your house about every other month

now if your lookng into getting a wii , those things never break

Now there's absolutely no way I'm buying one

Rock solid piece of equipment. Have a 20gb launch (don't need wifi, haven't even had to upgrade HDD yet) and other than the occasional freeze (like 3 times over 2.5 years) nothing wrong at all.

Make sure, while you're in the US, immediately after purchasing, you go somewhere and make sure it works. Test everything as much as you can, wifi, game, controllers etc. That way, if you buy from a good place, you can return right there if it doesn't work.

I have 6 friends who bought 360s when it launched. 3 of them only had to send it back once..RROD. The other 3 weren't so lucky. of those 3 2 of them are on their 3rd xbox from the RROD and the other guy had 2 RROD's and a disk drive failure. M$ wouldnt repair or replace the disk drive problem so he's pretty fed up with it and its either upgrading his PC or getting a PS3. I suppose if you're hyped about any of ps3's line up its a solid choice..I'm yawning though..FF13 is too far away and I got tired of FPS games about 4 years ago

Good hardware - terrible softwarescottiescott238

I'm sorry but the PS3 does not have terrible software, it has a huge line-up of amazing games coming out including GOW3, Killzone2 and Resistance 2 so you're argument is flawed my friend...

Personally, my cousin has an X360 and he's never had any problems, but maybe the UK Xbox's are better built? His friends haven't had probs either. But I bought a 40GB PS3 because it has a longer life-cycle and blu-ray capability.

Honestly mate your gonna love it. I bought the wii first like you and was bored of it in a month. Then i got the ps3 and i had games like call of duty 4, MGS4, Half-Life, Resistance and uncharted. Get it u wont be dissapointed!

5. does the ps3 come with those hd cables.

no but dont be fooled you dont have to spend a lot for the hdmi cables if the cable is under six feet you can buy a 15 to 30 dollar cable and it'll be just as good as the expensive one
