Yeah USB external hard drives work on the PS3. You can't play games off of them, but you can load them up with music, movies, and photos. Make sure it is formatted in FAT32 format.

fat32 is a type of formatting for the harddrive, i forget what it does compared to the other but yeah.

you could probarbly get a blu ray drive and somehow emulate ps3 games to the external hdd... but your own games, dont pirate.

FAT32 is a disc format mode. I think it was used for Win95.

Plug your USB HDD into your computer. Format it as FAT32. Then, put it back to your PS3. Look above your "Music" or "Photos" or Movies" and you'll see a HDD icon.

Thanks for info guys but it seems my format only does NTFS. How do I get it to format under Fat32 and if case it does format under FAT32, can I always format back into NTFS in the future!?

First of all. If your have a USB drive, it has to be relatively new. FAT32 is OLD! Yes, Windows 95 old and older...All computers have the ability to format in FAT32. And yes. You can format it back to NTFS if you want later. Are you using WIndows 95, 98, XP or Vista?

Have you formated it yet? Format it as NTFS, then see if you can format it again as FAT32. Maybe it's not even formated in the first place. My only other suggestion is to take it your friends house and have him format it on his computer.

Just right click the drive and select format drive.

The only external HDD I have can only be formatted in NTFS, that may also be the problem.

I have a 150GB external HDD, and I was looking into this a while back. It was nice to know that my MyBook is already FAT32 formatted, so I dont have to wipe it and reload it if I ever need to hook it up to my PS3 =)
