I'm wondering because I wanna buy an upconvert dvd player for my entertainment system but if the PS3 does the same thing there's no point in buying one.

Yes it does upscale and does about the best job of doing so. Just use the HDMI cable for the best results.

Why would you ask on a forum instead of just trying?

Some people can't see the difference. I've shown my best friend an HD movie and a regular one on numerous occasions and he couldn't tell the difference.

The easier way is to turn on the subtitles. Upscaled has smoothed out edges while 480p has jaggie edges. Its also the easier way to tell between 480i and 480p. You can actually see the gaps in the subtitles as they refresh.

Cause I watched a movie last night and thought it looked really good compared to when I watched another movie on my 360.
