So, my video ipod died last night, and i've been really considering getting the PSPgo. I already have a bunch of ps1 classics already from the PS store, so it might seem like the logical item replacement.

However, i'm debating whether i should get the Go or an iTouch...

What is your opinion or experience?

Thanks!

Allow me to start by saying this- I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination. So you can utterly disregard my opinion if you want. However, I find the sound quality to be the same as my iPhone, so I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. I used the same headphones with both and couldn't hear a difference. So I think it could be a good upgrade for you. The only thing I should say you should consider is whether you'd really use any iPhone apps (not games) and if you would, how important it would be to you. I personally don't want to go back to a world where I didn't have some of those apps with me. But if you're looking strictly at gaming (which the PSP is far better than the iPod Touch for) and music, the PSP Go will likely be a great buy.

PSPGo as a viable MP3 player? Why not - 16 GB of memory, good EQ settings, very fast forward :) great for loooong tracks, visualizer (for those who like "watching at music"). I'm using my PSP3000 as mp3 player (instead of my iPod nano 2nd :) ), so PSPGo would be definitely better choice :)

Ive replaced my iPod with it too. Great sound, small and you can lock the keys and turn off the display for better battary like MP3 players. Its well worth it as if you get bored just wap out a bit god of war, MGS, GT or any other amazing game.

It makes a fine MP3 player, but the interface for song/album selection is nowhere near as nice as the iPod, and the iPod has a better web browser. However, the sound is good, videos look good, and it is a way better gaming machine than the iPod touch.

its an ok mp3 player (i think creative products have the best sound) but if youre not an audiophile then its fine. Also a decent pair of headphones will help the quality

hmm well, my biggest gripe is that my iTunes library (after much hard work and persistence over the years) is perfect! I have everything thing perfectly organized, and my album art images are all at nice resolutions and are sharp, etc, etc I kinda feel that using the Go as an mp3 player will make my hard work go to shame (especially album art wise lol) What's your experience?

Okay if you are getting a PSP Go maint for Music don't bother. While yes it is an All Media Portable system, its main function is games. The sound isn't as good as an ipod and the way the music is organized is way better on an ipod. Now the PSP is still a fine Music player and is usable source for music but you can't compare the PSP to an Ipod as far a music goes, so this is what questions I would go with: 1. Besides music, will I use anything else on the PSP. Will I play games and watch movies? (IF you say you won't play games or do anything else besides listen to music then don't bother with the Go. Just keep your current PSP...if you have one....) 2. Now if you say I will mainly use the music function and may possibly use alot of the Apps (then get the Ipod) I currently use my PSP for Music but I also do everything else on it. So if you feel you won't really play any games or do anything else besides listening music and an occasional play then get an ipod and keep your current psp if you have one. But if you would use the others features then go ahead and get the Go. Its great and worht the buy if you use all it's features.

When my Creative Zen broke down, I tried the psp as a mp3 player and i found out that the sound output level was low even at max with headphones. Now this could be due to the headphones but i tested same headphone on different device and it was loud. i like my music real loud and i did not get that from my psp. also the L and R buttons switch tracks which is very annoying. i kept hitting R or L (accidently) and song changed. just my opinions.

Yes I can. And I use the music on my PSP everyday on my daily commute.

I can second that...PSPs volume output is limited to conserve battery life. Another nifty limitation.

The same thing goes for some videos for the sound. I had the UMD Movies for MTV Spiderman Aniamted Series (Got it for cheap) and boy was the sound horrible. No subitles and I couldnt hear a work they were saying on the damn thing, but that doesn't go for every movie.

i even tried to legally try to make my psp volume level higher, but there was no options for that. As far as the psp go is concerned, the spec's released by Sony were same as PSP3000(as far as the sound is concerned) and they would have mentioned it if they did fix this problem/limitation. i would not recommend psp or PSP go as a mp3 player, unless you plan on gaming with it as well. You can buy a mp3 player for way cheaper that is more compact than a psp GO, can take it to the gym, and can get a higher volume output than the psp can at this time.

oh man! now i'm really confused: i was fairly sure i was going to get a PSPgo, but now the iTouch does seem pretty appealing... the thing is, i'm a gamer: i already have a FF7, Crash 2, MGS, RE1, and Silent Hill purchased. However, i love my music, especially my highly organized iTunes music ;) I'm sorry guys, i really need your advice on this one and i really appreciate the help thus far. Keep it coming :)

my question is: do you already own a PSP device? If yes, Go for an ipod touch for your music needs. if no, buy a PSP GO or Buy a PSP 3000 for a cheaper price and a Creative Zen/Alternative non-ipod MP3 device together totalling the same price as a PSP GO. Prioritize your needs: 1) gaming (have a : PSP yes or no) 2) Music for the roads 3) budget for your purchases 4) research 5) decide. its not that complicated.

I take great pride in my music. I buy about 20 songs a week and my ipod touch is really for home. It was a gift and I really dont want to bust it up. So I am considering for the same reason as you, but will it hold on the stuff. Yes 16G is alot but have you ever considered how much maybe 50 songs takes up? Its about like 500 MB ( I am not a techy just guessing there ) and with games on the device your looking at maybe a loss of about 2 games, but with videos, pictures, and other stuff, alot of music might not be a good idea. But a 250$ MP3 player? No. A 250$device that can play music play PSP games and can be really nice have to have yes thats what a PSP Go is.

Well if you feel you will play thoese games, maybe get more, and do play then get the Psp Go. IF you utilize most of it, it is defiently worth it. I would go with that. If you decide that you will ultilize more than just music then Go and the PSP Go.
