ok heres my story.... i bought a new 40g ps3 about 2 weeks ago from gamestop..about three days ago. i opened the HDD and found that it was completely Diffrent from this manual.... hmmm.. i said to the wierd HDD.. there were no two screws by the blue one... there were four on the sides of it... and then... i looked at the lable and it said Hitatchi.. i didnt worry about it that much...but today i tried to take the screws out.. and i tried for about an hour to take out one of the screws... and it wouldent come out and i thought it was stripped... i tried the other one gently but it also did not come out... so i called sony customer support today.. and said this "the four screws on my Hitatchi HDD will not come out".... she was confused...because she said there should not be four screws and she said only seagate makes HDD's for the ps3... i told her i bought it new from gamestop... she told me that they sold me a used system instead of a new ps3 with the wrong hardrive and the screws were most likely already stripped...im going to go return it tomorrow and try to get my money back so i could buy it from bestbuy... i hate gamestop so much....

also there were 4 scratches on the back side of the HDD....

Guess they forgot to put a refurbished label on it or something, although I doubt it. Regardless, that's cheap move by Gamestop.

I hope you get a full refund.

I bought a MGS4 80 GB bundle from gamestop 2~3 days ago(yes, I don't remember lol). It was brand new and sealed so I don't think they could have swapped the HDD. I haven't checked though, I'm not good at opening stuff.

Damn, I read about this from you a couple of days ago. Gamestop is kind of notorious for doing stuff like this, I remember way back that kid who got a phonebook instead of a PS3.

I bought a new PS3 from Best Buy at launch and it had a Hitachi HDD. The screw issue has been a problem with many PS3's. You need to make sure you are using a precision screw driver, if not they wont come out. This was probably 10 years ago, but I worked at an EB games when I was in HS and we never sold a used system as new, never. The fact is that you just bought a PS3 with and Hitachi HDD, one of several brands they use.

10 years ago?.... and i hardly believe u need the best screw driver to unscrew something... u only need something that exactly fits into the screw wich i had... the damn screws broke my screw driver too....

That sucks but it won't be so bad if they're willing to exchange it.

he means when he worked at ebgames 10 years ago, they never sold a used console and said it was new. which meant consoles like n64 PS1 etc.

Yah, I bought a "new" 40GB PS3 which turned out to be a used one. I went to the save data utility and found a Motorstorm file in there.

Yeah, I hope you definitely get a full refund gamestop no longer has my business anymore. There prices suck for trade ins. Late on preorders. Also they are just a plain jerks and are looking to make a quick buck. Hate them

Like I said earlier not every PS3 has the same brand HDD. Hitachi is a a HDD that is being used. If you have one with a Hitachi HDD it does not mean it was used. I will agree that gamestop screws you on the trade-ins. It blows my mind they give you $20 for a game and turn around and sell it $45. Back when I worked with EBGames it wasnt that big of a mark up. The trade-in credit wasnt great, but we only marked them up about $10. We also didnt sell a used system as if it was new. They may do it now, but they didnt when I worked there. However, they would let us check out games for a couple of nights and then sell them as new.

You know too many people start these dont buy this and that from gamestop, you may have gotten bad luck one day or your personal gamestop location may be a poor one, but you cant condemn the entire franchise for your bad experience. I mean I buy several games from my local gamestop, never had any problems with my products and the people working there are actual gamers, to the point of being typical gaming nerds for some of them. So its not every gamestop its either just yours, or your bad luck.

the lady you talked to has know idea what she is talking about. I bought my 40GB from Best Buy and guess what the Hard Drive was... HITACHI! They use the Hitachi's for the 40GB only. I swapped mine out too and it wasnt hard to get the 4 screws out.

Besides, this will teach you a lesson, kid

Don't buy game systems used.

I buy games used, but before I do, I ask to see the disc to see if their's any scratches on it.

Took 25 years but I finally learned how to buy used

I could've sworn he said used. No matter. I'll admit I was wrong and walk away. But you don't have to be a dick to say I'm wrong

3 shopping experiences at EB/Gamestop and I've learned to ask to see the disc period... Last 3 times they've put the wrong game in the case; sadly, I didn't notice it on one of my PSP games because it was my brothers and he had it for 3 months... never opening the game. When he did, I noticed it was Syphon Filter Dark Mirror isntead of Logan's SHadow. Same happened when they sold me Devil may Cry 4 special edition...and put 3 bonus discs in it instead of the game.
