I'm not saying like it's a bad thing. It's just that half of the best PSP games are RPGs. I'm kinda getting tired of these where it's all "save the world". I'm kinda missing the times where it's God of War and Tekken, not just Final Fantasy.

You're crazy. There's like one original Final Fantasy game on PSP. And two God of War games and a couple Tekken games. In fact there really aren't ALL that many RPGS on the PSP... the DS has a lot more.

Naw. As long as it's done right and the creators make something that feels unique and inspired then I'm all for it. Other than that, any run-of-mill game gets boring over time to me no matter what genre it is.

Thats exactly why I get tired of RPGs. A lot of them have too similar concepts. World thrown into turmoil, level up a lot, advance through the story, level up a lot, climax in story, level up a lot to fight the final boss. There are plenty of unique RPGs that still feel fresh, but all these turn-based ones are as fresh as a cabbage from 1980, because around the '80s is when we first saw this formula.

These days I feel like playing WRPGs a lot more than JRPGs. WRPGs have started to grow and advance more this generation and last generation of gaming. For once people can play RPGs without terribly cheesy story plots, squeeky female voice actors that just sound like men trying to sound like girls, characters that have real personalities, not these spiky, blue haired teenagers that I wanna b**** slap and battle systems that emulate REAL fighting, not "Hey, i'm gonna swing this 10x my size sword at you and then i'll let you shoot me up with some icicles 'n' crap! Plus i'll scream out exactly what i'm gonna do for you! SWING-THIS-OVERSIZED-SWORD-AT-YOUR-FACE TECHNIQUE!" The only good JRPG i've played this generation was Tales of Vesperia. It had a good story, even if it dragged on a bit, only the princess had a squeeky voice but she definitelly didn't sound like a man raising his pitch a lot, Yuri was a little bad a**, people had unnaturally coloured hair but it din't spike out or have weird/impossible shapes and the battle systems were real-time which is good enough for me.

I love RPG's personally, I didnt find the PSP had that many, i thought the shooters were getting really big on any console except maybe DS. I would have to say RPG are going down more then anything. Expessally JRPG's. I perfere JRPG's over WRPG's. Thats just me

No, I'm not tired of the RPGs. It's one of the reasons I bought a PSP. But I don't always want to play RPGs, so I get other games, like Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, or Hammerin Hero.

psp has a lot of japanese RPGs which invole a lot of grinding and turn based action (like pokemon but for psp) which can get boring really fast. Sony is more worried about their ps3 getting good games.

Yes. Usually 1-2 RPG playthroughs in succession is enough to burn me out on them for a few months. I'm actually not enjoying my first run through Xenogears because of it.

Overall I like RPGs and enjoy story-driven games, but in the long run I really play games for challenging, exciting gameplay, and RPGs rarely provide that. This being said the PSP has had a few action RPGs that I've enjoyed even while burnt out on the genre, and I'm glad to see quality titles appear on the system regardless of genre.

One thing I hate with a passion is anime. So as you can imagine RPGs, JRPGs or whatever kind of "RPG"s there are, they almost always involve some kind of weird characters with an absurd hairstyle and lots of "Hya!" noises annoy me. Anime fans and RPG fans seem to go hand in hand. So that's why I hate them.

I second this. If anything the PSP is just starting to get MORE rpg's with Falcom releasing three of the Y's titles recently. But also at the same time I'm tired of the RPG/Anime themes going hand-in-hand along with saving the world themes.

Coolyfett agrees! Coolyfett has mixed feelings about RPGs. Its a lonely mans game. Its not a game you can just pass to your friends to play. Honestly God of War kinda sucks too. The set up of it is so good, but man is it repeatative. MK beats Tekken anyday. Where are the modern day RPG games? The best thing about RPGs are the stories & character development. People most die, people must betrey, most be sacrifice.

That may be true for other forms of media, but to me, good anime is the exception. The only ones I've been able to enjoy are FLCL, Beck(Mongolian Chop Quad), and Bakuman. Everything else is just too crazy, too emotional, always exaggerated.

To each his own I guess. You've got to like that crazy culture.

Why?

I game on pc and ps3 mostly, and rpg's are alot less and weaker than on the psp (Jrpgs that is) so if i play the psp it's mostly to play them.

Why would you want a handheld for anything else? i mean unless you are barely at home everything else is better on a big hd screen imo...

So freakin' right. Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad is the best anime i've ever watched. Plus the actually artist Beck is really good. Chemtrails, Replica and New Pollution are bomb, but his more commercial songs E-Pro and Timebomb are like anthems. The only other animes i've liked were Full Metal Alchemist (which had a piece of crap ending), Afro Samurai and Old Boy. Plus there's the classics like Dragon Ball and... okay, well Dragon Ball is the only classic. But in general, anime is stupid.

Well it looks like you guys are only watching the mainstream crap. Shounen, etc... which for the most part I can't stand. Not that you'd likely like some of the stuff I prefer, lol. But anime is broad in scope. Not all of it is made up of those cliche tropes that I assume you're referring to. There's everything from serious drama to comedy very far removed from your typical ecchi harem crap.

Be grateful, that's all I can say. The PSP is nearly dead in the west which is why we don't get games like God of War or Resistance Retribution anymore. The financial return isn't worth the investment anymore. RPGs is very popular in Japan which is why they're being made on the system. I say let's be thankful that Square-Enix, Atlus, or XSeed is even localizing them because the PSP NEEDS more games in the west. Besides, not all the recent PSP games are RPGs. Dissidia 2, 3rd Birthday, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Patapon 3, Prinny 2...these aren't RPGs.

No, I'm not. There's so much action crap on other consoles that I don't know why I even own them anymore. Well, occasionally there's a good game on them as well like Final Fantasy XIII, Tales of Vesperia and Oblivion but beyond those rare, almost one-time-a-year gems, it's all generic action games. Glad I still have the PSP.

"Mainstream crap". Those two words are like the 21st centuries bible. Mainstream music sucks. Nirvana is now Cancerbats, Whitney Houston is now Ke$ha, Michael Jackson is now Usher, who isn't so bad except for the fact that he signed Justin Bieber, Death Row and Outlawz is now Young Money and Roc-A-Fella, and Madonna is now Rebecca Black. On top of that we have directors that butcher stories and make them into terrible movies. The Spy Next Door, Furry Vengeance, I Love You Phillip Morris, and of course The Last Airbender. And video games haven't been doing great either. Maybe it's just me and video games just aren't as exciting for me anymore but I honestly feel like there weren't any amazing releases for the past two or so years. And TV might just be the worst part. Aside from the shows that have been doing good before this whole bad-media-age, all the new shows are so stupid. I think we need to face the fact that the surface of media is dried up and the only entertaining entertainment is underground media. Commercial media sucks these days.

Nah, RPGs come in such a variety, I really never tire of them.

Example of 3 very different RPGs:

Final Fantasy I and II- Old School JRPG (Quite Linear)

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite- Monster Hunting, Dungeon Crawling, Loot-Based RPG (Lots and Lots of Customization, Open Ended)

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions- Strategy Role-Playing Game, Class/Party Based (Lots of Customization, Hundreds of Hours of Gameplay)

No offense but you're far off with most of those analogies.

[QUOTE="jedinat"] Well it looks like you guys are only watching the mainstream crap. Shounen, etc... which for the most part I can't stand. Not that you'd likely like some of the stuff I prefer, lol. How is that? Nirvana made grunge music and now Cancer Bats do. '80s Pop (popular) music were artists like Whitney Houston and now the popular Pop artists are people like Ke$ha and Lady GaGa. And since Michael Jackson died, Usher has been NAMED the new MJ over Chris Brown, and the whole Death Row, Outloawz vs Young Money and Roc-A-Fella needs no explanation, but I guess Rebecca Black being the new Madonna was overdramatized. So I was off on one which isn't a big deal.

S how about all the other Grunge, Post Grunge bands to come after Nirvana? Heck Alice in Chains is still is still around and more popular than CB. Not that CB is a Grunge band anyways they're more of a Hardcore or Metalcore band (also they aren't even mainstream well at least not in the US). IF we were going to compare female Pop artist I would go with Madonna to Lady Gaga, not Houston. Houston was more of a R&B, Soul singer although she have Pop songs. Gaga and Madonna are straight up Pop for the most part. (not that it really matters Pop music has always been mediocre except for a few artist)

I'm talking about your modern grunge band, as in 21st century. Cancer Bats were the latest mainstream grunge band to come out of the industry, and like every comparison i've done, they latter suck (being Cancer Bats). Cancer Bats are definitelly a mainstream grunge band, but the grunge genre isn't so mainstream itself in general. And yeah, Madonna vs GaGa would have been a better comparison, I agree.

I'm not saying like it's a bad thing. It's just that half of the best PSP games are RPGs. I'm kinda getting tired of these where it's all "save the world". I'm kinda missing the times where it's God of War and Tekken, not just Final Fantasy.

I don't get tired of RPGs easily. I do get very frustrated and tired of JRPGs though. Still love em though.
