I am new to PS3 and wondering if any of you would download a game from the PS Store rather than purchase the physical game disc from a store like amazon or bestbuy etc? I only ask because I see that you can save a few bucks on some purchases there. But afraid that my 160GB PS3 might eventually run out of space. Any Pros and Cons from those of you that have been doing this for awhile? Also interested to see if that PlayStation Plus account membership is worth it or not? Thanks and appreciate any advice and tips you can give.

there are no DVDs on PS3 , but i suggest to rather get physical BLU RAY copies of any game you want, like that you have something you can resell , not possible with psn games , even less with the newreduced 2 console sharing

Playstation Store is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Some examples: Mass Effect 2 Playstation Store 60 GBPounds, physical copy from Amazon UK 15 GBPounds. Deus Ex HR Playstation Store 40 GBPounds, physical copy from Amazon UK 10 GBPounds.

On consoles I would only recommend buying off of psn or live if you cannot find it on disc or its super cheap. If this were PC I would tell you to make a steam account and take advantage of their current winter sale at the moment lol. Consoles hard drives aren't as big as a PC so they will fill up faster. If you buy a disc then you can just put it in and play the game, re sell if you dont like the game, and get it autographed at conventions lol. Buying off psn isnt really bad but your hard drive will fill up faster and if you buy too many of your games from psn then you will be limited to how many games you can play due to what is installed on your ps3. If you want to play something that isn't installed you will have to un install something (you will keep your saves of coarse) and re install the game you want to play which could take a few hours since download by streaming is never as quick as installing from a disc. The argument of "having a digital download means you dont have to worry about scratching the disc" doesnt really mean much on ps3 since blu rays are harder to damage. You have to go out of your way to scratch a blu ray. Its up to you but also keep in mind the new game sharing policy that means if you download a psn game its linked to your psn account and can only be on 2 ps3's. If you want it on another one you will have to unauthorize one ps3 which is easy but just something to consider. As a PC gamer I love digital downloads for PC games, I love going into gamestop and telling them i cant wait for a certain game and when they ask me if I want to pre order I tell them Im preordering on steam lol. As for consoles I don't like digital downloading as much. If all my ps3 games were downloaded from psn there is no way all of them would fit on my hard drive considering I have 30 disc games and 7 downloaded games.

Dont bother with PS plus. Basically it gives you discounts on some stuff and a lot of psn games are cheaper and many ps1 games are free. Be warned if you have ps plus, get a free game, then cancel you loose that free game. So I really dont think ps plus is worth it to be honest.

I always prefer to have a physical copy of a game, unless it's an only-digital copy game.

I just don't understand how people can download all these full games off of PSN and let it take up precious harddrive space. I also like having a collection.

No, never. Oftentimes the price on PSN is more expensive than a retail copy is, and I also like having a disc and case and everything.

I never have and never will buy anything off PSN. Digital copies are meant to be cheaper because they don't have to spend money on copying discs, packing material, manuals and shipping them everywhere.. however the PSN has prices a lot higher than in stores which makes no sense. Not only that it'll fill up your hdd in no time.

I just buy whatever's cheaper, which in 100% of the cases so far has been physical copies from Amazon. The only games I've downloaded were a couple free ones after the hacking thing, and one for 50% off that wasn't available in physical form.

If I really dislike a game, it's always nice to be able to trade it in too.

If you can I'd buy the physical copy.

You never know when Sony is going to change it's download policies on you.

It used to be you could download a game to 5 machines, now it's 2 PS3s and 2 portables. Who can say what it will be six or twelve months from now.

As well, if you play a lot of games, you're going to use up that harddrive space before you know it.

Plus there's the potential to re-sell a physical copy - you can't re-sell a digital download.

I would HIGHLY suggest buying the physical copy of the game. When you don't want to play that game anymore, you cannot sell it back to PlayStation. You have the option of deleting the game from your system or you can keep it there unplayed for how ever long you would like to keep your system. Yes, a lot of times the downloadable version of the game is cheaper, but not by much. A lot of times it is the exact same price as the physical copies. Plus, if you use a lot of your memory on your system for downloads only, you will eventually have to upgrade your memory or start buying the physical games again.

I am new to PS3 and wondering if any of you would download a game from the PS Store rather than purchase the physical game DVD from a store like amazon or bestbuy etc? I only ask because I see that you can save a few bucks on some purchases there. But afraid that my 160GB PS3 might eventually run out of space. You'll most probably find the full blue-ray disc games to be way cheaper at online games shops. They're way overrpriced on the PS Store, I really wouldn't recommend purchasing full games from it.. Unless of course the game is priced reasonably but a lot of them are not.

Physical discs. They're usually cheaper than the digital downloads on the PS store, plus you still have the game if something were to happen to your online account. And you can trade the game in if you don't like it.

Thanks everyone and I really appreciate the tips and advice. I will stick to buying the discs and only download if its not available on disc like Castle Crashers wasnt. Thats what got me wondering about the PS Store and if it was worth it or not. But it make better sense to own the disc and have the option to share it, trade it in, or sell it if I dont want to play it anymore.

It seems only worth buying from the PSN store when they are offering a discounted bundle (say game + all DLC for 20) but toherwise I find their prices are significantly higher than the physical copies which is not right.

It's almost like when I buy music...it's cheaper sometimes to order the damn vinyl than buy a full 4-track release in WAV or 320 MP3.

If I have the choice, I always buy the physcial game. You save time by not having a long download time and it keeps more room on your hard drive. When I was in the PS store last night, I saw the complete LA NOIRE was about thirty gig to download. That's crazy. That will take you all week to download!

Also, you have the choice of buying used, which can save you money, also it's possible to loan games out. You can't do that when download the games.

I would only buy digital if the game requires an online subscription / pass code to play, like DC Universe before it was free. In this case the disc is pretty worthless & I may as well spare the shelf space. Sadly this may be the way all games are going in the future, from the looks of things.

I've had a few experiences with PSN - I haven't had any problems with it but I always prefer to get the physical copy... just to have that physical product means more to me

I personally prefer to buy a physical copy of a game, unless of course it's only available as a download.

ps3 games are bluray but anyway, it depends if the game is cheaper on PSN then I will buy it from there, but its usually more on PSN than in the store (I buy from Amazon.com) and if the games are the same price then I will buy the hard copy just because why should I pay the same for a digital game? The digital games should be cheaper since they dont have to put it on a disk.
