I first noticed it started to get worse when I was playing gta 4 and the garbage cans across the block dissapeared when i walked away from them. In uncharted 2 the shadows on certain things wouldnt appear until i got like 4 feet close to them. in red dead redemption its terrible. houses keep changing in their level of detail when i get closer to them.

Its summer so i moved my ps3 downstairs (humidity) to try and keep it cool. when it was upstairs it got louder.

1) can you describe your draw distance on gta 4 or red dead redemption so i can compare?

2) any idea what could be wrong?

Red Dead and GTA have some pretty fair "texture draw-in" problems, as does Midnight Club: LA. Not horrible but it's definitely more than the average PS3 game. Part of that just comes from the huge and open worlds these games present. So that's pretty normal for those games. Unfortunately the open world games aren't quite free of this.. Anyway every once in awhile you will notice tufts of grass "fading in" a little more abruptly than they should. Sometimes the transition on the levels of detail is a little rough on mountans/buildings/trees and looks like a small "flicker" when you see the greater detail fill in. All of that is normal. However if you are standing on top of a vista or cliff and rotating around, the "draw distance' should not really be a problem at all. Usually these pop in problems seem to happen when you are on horseback or changing direction rapidly. (not unlike Assassin's Creed) Uncharted 2 i never noticed even the slightest graphical issue (no pop in, or screen tearing, or anything at all). The first Uncharted had some screen tearing. That is weird with the shadows, maybe I just never noticed it. Anyway my guess is your PS3 is fine, your just noticing little flaws present in these particular games.
