hey guys-Â Do u have a pic of it? I'm sorry, but who would be that stupid to drop an expensive sytem. And not even try to get it replaced or something.
I have a friend who is willing to sell me his PS3 for 200$ (I know! What a steal!) The only problem is that it was dropped, and the casing is split about 1/4 of an inch. when you put in a disc, there's an odd sound, but it doesn't scratch the discs. The rest of the console is totally functional, but the disc reading aspect comes and goes.
I've tried pushing the casing back together, but it seems like it's stuck.. I can't find any repair guides or teardowns online, can someone help me?
Thanks!

I don't think you have to resort to name calling, i'm pretty sure it was an accident. You don't purposely drop a game console buddy. Give the guy a break.
Buy it for 200. OK Listen then call Sont support (make sure to have all the materials like the box just ask your frined but I dont think its nessisary but just do. then after you get your system call Sony CS. Since S..... wait nevermind...I dont think the warrenty covers accidental damage by user. Scratch that.KaptainKernal
The above user is right.
I dont think people read warranties. I mean, it IS nice to know to what extent a warranty covers your items. I read the whole warranty. It does not cover ANY accidental damage whatsoever...sadly. It makes me even more paranoid.
On the warranty itself it even says "Acts of God will not be covered" not the exact quote but something really close. Which means even if it was destroyed by a natural disaster they wont replace it. So if they wont replace it if a thunderstorm broke it, why do you think they will if some moron drops it?
Good deal I geuss, Sony might fix it for you if you havethereceipt, I dunno..... call them first tho.
if you can get his warranty paper, you're fine
Anyway, you can get it to a repair shop and make it chacked and repaired and still get it for less than a new one!

Well, this story has a happy ending..
It's a big shame to see the naysayers, (Those accusing me of being the dropper, a liar, etc.) but those are at every website. In the end, I tried to get it replaced, no dice. Instead, I went out, bought a 3$ screwdriver, fixed it myself and saved 400$.
A 60GB PS3 with 2 games for 200$? Oh yes, it does exist, and now it's mine.

hey guys-Id be3 more concerned about your friends floor than the PS3 :)

If his friend dropped his console on the ground, I doubt he was smart enough to keep the box. However, yes, I doubt the warranty covers damage caused by the user on accident.
No.
I did not drop it.
He did, and it barely worked- until I fixed it, and bought it for 200$.

It doesn't matter who dropped it, in general if someone dropped it then it is user error not hardware error. So if your dog yanked the power cord or something and it pulled it off the table would you tell Sony i didn't do it my dog did it therefore you should replace it. That's just an example of what i mean but the warranty doesn't cover user errors.

EXACTLY what i have been trying to say all along!
Despite me saying the warranty doesnt cover that people STILL tellhim to call Sony. THEY WONT HELP YOU IF YOU BREAK THE SYSTEM!
I guess people just like ignoring advice they dont want to hear.
