look i love sony and my ps3 as much as the next guy, but the new dual shock 3 looks exactly the same, just has rumble and says "dual shock 3" on it, R U SERIOUS?

honestly i dont care about rumble really, what i do care about it the quality of the material the sisaxsis is made of. U got the amzing hardware with this cheap feeling controller!

they want to keep the same design...fine! how about using better material to make it feel more sterdy, higher quality, seriously! i am no longer looking foward to the new dual shock 3 like i was! there is not really any incentive unless u really want rumble and i know there are more people that dont mind at all.

am i alone on this?

edit:

the controller i really like was the logitec wireless controller for the ps2 (i looked the same but was made very well)

u know what...i want the boomerang!!

the reason the six-axis feels so cheap is because it's so light... with the heft of the motors it will feel much more sturdy.

I've dropped my six-axis controllers many times, and they are doing just fine. they aren't weak

yeah what were u expecting? the controllers has basically been the same for 10 years, and all of a sudden your complaining? so i guess the industry standard "hard plastic" is no longer acceptable material to make controlers with? did u really expect a design change in the control? when they added rumble to the first ps1 control there was very little change in the design/shape.

youre right

and if you have read them

"The rumble itself felt around the level of PlayStation 2 rumble. We're not sure just yet if Sony is using any of that next generation technology Immersion has been talking about for the past few months."

"It also felt notably heavier than the standard Sixaxis."

I swear you cant satisfy anyone, wtf is the problem w/the new controller??? So what it does not have a new design, seriously does it need one? Good God people, I'm sorry but I love the six-axis controller, I like the light feeling and now that they are adding rumble hey thats even better. I just cant believe that people are acting as if the world is ending because their is no noticible cosmetic difference. If your not happy fine dont buy the new controller and thats the end of that, however give the freaking controller a chance people.....

Stop it.

And seriously, I don't see what the surprise is here. The Sixaxis was essentially a dualshock 2 just with a few different features.

yeah i'm not surprised either, it may feel cheap, but it works. they'll probably tighten it up a bit. wouldnt' it be cool if they released like a special edition Killzone 2 controller with a Helghast in the middle with glowing eyes instead of the PS symbol!

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if they do have something like a special edition Killzone 2 controller. It's one of Sony's biggest games, so it wouldn't shock me. I mean, MS just released Halo 3 controllers for the 360, if it gets a few more people to buy the product who may not have bought it before, it makes sense.

id of hated it if they announced they were gonna change the layout/design for the new controller, i love the PS controller as is, its been pretty much the same design sinse the original PS, no point in changein somethin thats loved, or better said as "if it aint broke dont fix it" the controller is perfect as is with its layout/design, small tweaks is all it ever needed and all it ever had, keep it lookin liek it does sony :)

well, to be honest i didnt expect anything more than this. Sony sticks with the same design simply cause its just perfect, why take the risk and change it?Also i dont see any problem with the material ofsony controllers,i am a PS owner since the first playstation and never had any problem with the controller after so many times of falling down. They add rumble on it so the weight changed,i ll possible buy the DS 3 just for the games vibration supportand i ll use the simple controller for OS navigation/internet.

I don't care at all about rumble. I just wish they would do something about the atrocious L2 and R2 buttons. They should either make them the same as the PS2 controller, make them where they push straight in instead of the bottom caving in, or make them like the triggers on the 360 controller.

seriously, did you really expect a drastic change? Be happy we have rumble back and enjoy the fact that sony listens to its customers enough to fight in court to get this for us.

i dont see why sony would make drastic cosmetic changes to the controller if all their doing is putting rumble. its been like that since the ps1 and ps2. why change it?

remember it is subject to change, its just a prototype.

i would like them to make the controller bigger with a little more spacing between the buttons (analog stick) not to start a console war but i like the 360 controller setup better. i still like the PS3 controller and played through the PS2 generation, but still.

or at least make a curve on the L2/R2 buttons like a trigger so my fingers don't slip off.

If it works, why change it.

I doubt the controller is "Cheap" as you state. It's been used for many years and it works perfectly. I love the way it feels in my hands, it feels just right.

However, if you don't like the new model, (wishing it looked different), you can always buy different non Sony model.

In my opinion, nothing wrong with new one, except that at this time it's not included with PS3 systems. That's the only change I'd love to see.

It borders on lunacy to expect Sony to change the design of their controller. The DualShock is a staple in the gaming community as a controller and a change would incite outrage, much like it did when the Boomerang was the official controller.

I don't know about you guys, but scammers could rip you off on ebay or locally. They could advertise a sixaxis controller as "NEW RUMBLE 3 CONTROLLER" and try to milk you out of let's say $70. I know some goofs try to pass off Dualshocks as Dualshock 2. I feel sorry for the suckers who open the package to find a Playstation one controller.

:x I totally think the same. When I heard that " Sony was going to add rumble to the Sixaxis", I totally thought they were changing the complete design of the controller they've been using since PS1, also changing the material of the controller, and the color of the controller.... Damn.... I totally thought they meant "we're designing the 'Boomerang' ".....

..... WTF..... But you know what, I had enough, ....enough is enough, I'm getting rid of this damn PS3 and buy me a 360. at least their controllers are white....

 lol.....stupid

The six-axis is by far not a bad controller and adding dualshock or "touchsense" or whatever they wanna do is cool but..

Why can't they just fix the god damn triggers so they curve in a way that they grip your fingers like with the 360 controller,, it owuldn't be that hard, keep controller the same just change the shape, also perhaps indent the thumbsticks so you can get a proper grip on the sticks whilst playing shooters.

The rest of the controller is fine just fix the triggers and indent the thumbsticks.. easy. Id ratehr that over rumble anyday

I personally think the new PS3 controller at the least needs to be as sturdy as the Dual Shock (PS2) controller. It's the one thing that drives me insane about the PS3 controller, it's just not sturdy enough. I don't do much twisting with the controllers in my hand, yet I can still feel the movement between the two sections of the controller - and it really just bugs me. For 50$ I expect a solidly built controller.

Just for reference, pick up one of the recent Logitech PS3 controllers - they are built well, great solid construction. It's just unfortunate that I prefer the layout of the official PS3 controller. Either way, I hope they've solved this issue with the current controller, the PS2 controller was great in terms of build quality - I'd like to see the same for the PS3.

To prove how durable the Sixaxis controller is I got pissed while playing warhawk and chucked it across the room and hit the floor, book case, and metal chair. I took it apart to fix it and all I needed to do was put the buttons back in and VOILA! It works once again. Rumble or not... this is the best controller on the market.

What were you excepting. Sony would not go out and change the shape or features of the PS3 controller, thats just not them. What, did you want a touch screen built in (even though that would have been nice)? I'm glad they didn't change it and I know what you mean but just be happy that we have rumble back.

my only gripe is that they should make the analog sticks concave rather than covex . or whatever... make it dented inwards rather than popping out... there will be less slippage this way...
