Query gentlemen... I bought my DS3 today and finally $ony has a great controller again, the thing is when I plug it into the USB port it does not begin charging. Now I know that the USB port/cable works cuz I was able to sync it with the PS3 as controller 1 so is there something I'm missing? An update perhaps? Anyone else had this issue or do I have to return it and buy a new one? I simply cannot go another day without rumble or the weight of the DS3 in my hands, it worked @ first cuz there was a little bit of a charge but it's dead now and my local Future Shop closes aboot nine o'clock so should I go and exchange it or WTF?

So it worked at first? It may be a dead battery. Try charging it with a computer or laptop. For the DS3 to work I believe you need update 1.94, or for the rumble to work. Anyways try that or charging it with one of the other USB ports. It may also be the cord, so if you have an MP3 USB cord, you can try that.

You did let it charge fully at first before using it?

No, the problem is that it wont charge. Normally with the old sixaxis when you plug it in to the USB port it starts charging, this can be verified by either the blinking light on the controller or by pressing the home button and it will tell you the status of the controller (charging) but it's as if I don't even have it plugged in - no blinking light on the controller and if you press home button it doesn't say "charging" by the controller icon.

If all else fails I would just exchange it. You don't have worry to much as long as you keep your reciept.

I was just wondering if there's something I'm missing, if there was something I neglected to do but I assume you guys all have DS3's and if none of you have had any issues I guess I just bought a dud. I'm gonna go exchange it now. Thanks for nuthin. Seriously, thanks for the replies but where you guys are trying to troubleshoot I was expecting "oh, you just gotta do _____ and it'll work fine" so this tells me I need a new one. Thanks anyways.

Yeah, seems like your best bet is to exchange it. Have you tested the usb cable(not port) with another controller to see if it charges it? If it does, you have a dud, but if it doesn't, you just need a new cable.

Ya, just got back from Future Shop, exchanged it and the new one works just fine. As soon as I plug it in it starts charging just like my old sixaxis, seems I just picked a dud off of the shelf. Got 'er charging right now, as soon as that light stops blinking I'm gonna hit up every game I own on the DS3 compatible list, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 just got a whole lot better.

BUMP! i've been looking around on forums and seem to have had no success with finding a viable answer as to why my controllers wont work... My ps3 controller had some sort of alcoholic concoction spilled on them, and broke so i got two new ds3 ones, however both wont work and display the same symptoms describe in this message - could there really be no other solution/ alternative than replacing the controllers? They work fine when plugged in - and i have tried, the pc, the reset button and various reset/connect variation and different cables - please help! Thanks!!
