My PS3 can now upgrade regular DVDs to HD quality so I'm wondering why I should buy a blu-ray disc that may cost more? If the movie is going to look just as good, what's the point of buying the blu-ray version? Can someone help me out on this ? Thnx.

it upscales its like a window being dirty and then you wipe it with a towel then boom its nice and clean now with HD its like cleaning the window with windex and its nice and crisp/shiny/sparkley everything is clear as in your gonna walk right into the window lol in other words makes the picture look nice at your tvs resolution so there wont be that sometimes annoying black bars on the side and look like ugly on your HDTV if you where stretch the picture manully which still looks good on an HDTV either way but doesnt come close to HD quilty with Blu-Rays but if you live with family i wouldent invest until everyone in the houshold has a blu-ray player cause like in my house we all view and share the movies so it would be hard doing that with blu-ray wait til then or till blu-ray wins..

Well said.:)

Upcoverting basically makes SD-DVDs watchable on your HDTV wheras most Blu-Ray movies like PoTC are simply stunning.

uhhhh upscaling is nowhere near the resolution and clarity of a hidef format.

for some reason people seem to think upscaling MAGICALLY adds HD resolutions, when it doesnt.

Upscaling does improve the quality by matching the pixel display of the tv, displaying them as progressive or interlaced as well, however content that is natively itself encoded in HD format will always be superior to upscaling. To some, upscaling may be "good enough" but for some stuff your gonna be like " I gotta have that on Blu-Ray"
