madden 09 is not new, like other post 2 to 3 years ok, but 1 year... i dont buy sports game either, infact the last game i got from EA was madden 09 for ps2 because it was only 10 bux on sale.. lol.. i will probably by 10 for the cover since steelers are best in my book and that was a good year for both steelers and AZ. Anyway.. before that i bought madden like 05 or 06. But back on topic....
This is just a buisness move, pretty much, they shut down the old sports games servers, forcing you to buy the latest game of that year, to go online, in turn, giving the company more money, and saving the company money by shutting down the old server.
You should see what Konami did with PES6 (PC): after the horrible PES 2008 came out, no one was playing it, instead we were all still on PES6, so Konami apparently capped the connection speed of its PES6 servers to create lag and force us to go play PES2008. It didn't work!

seriously why do people even invent sports game? PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2009 and the next year 2010, the only new addition: 2 new players and 1 team! and still people buy it like ****
The only ones I am even remotely concerned about are Madden 09 (the only year I own) and Facebreaker which is only $9.99 used and I thought about picking it up at that price.
It's understandable EA shutting down the servers on the old sports games as the games will be dead now anyway well games from 09 might not be either way it I don't own any of those games anyway.
For a moment i was terrified that my precious Team fortress 2 would be shut down. I have to say 09 games? Really? Nice way to shaft the consumer again EA.
LOL @ some of these comments. I love my yearly deposit of MLB The Show which is not coded by EA and has clear improvements year to year. I don't think all sports titles fall into the yearly milking genre.
well it must cost them a fortune to keep those servers up and running for 3/4 year old games so its no surprise but shutting down 09 games is wrong. With that they are just trying to force people to update.
