I'm looking at getting a PS3 and just wondering how easy is it to connect.

Do you just find your network and type in your WEP Key and thats it.

Unfortunately my other forum about replacing to PS3 was shut down...?

I look forward to hearing from you all.

My 60 GB is wireless and it was just as easy as hooking up a notebook... maybe even easier. If I recall (and I did this a year ago) just go to network settings and choose "wireless" connection. Make sure it's enabled and it should do the rest for you. I have an 80 GB at my new apartment but the cable modem/router is all in the same place so I opted for the ethernet cable. Didn't make much sense to connect wireless from 3 feet away.

My router is a BT HomeHub setup downstairs and I'm setting the PS3 upstairs about 8 meters away through floor and couple of walls.

My router is in the basement and my PS3 is in the living room and I've never had any problems. They're a good distance apart... not really sure though if you want an exact measurment. I think my signal has always been about 87...

The wireless network is very easy to set-up. I am lucky enough that the nearest neighbor is out of range for my network and there isn't that much traffic on my street to worry about a secure network.

Your neighbors should not be able to access your wireless service if you have to use a password to set it up.

just because when it scans and detects it doesnt mean its unsecured

the PS3 will pick up all routers sending out a signal but that doesnt mean you can use it

Thanks for all your messages.

Its all been a great help. Just to say I will be getting a PS3 now.

I was looking around and some website say the 40GB PS3 has no mention of WiFi and others do.

Could anyone clear this up for me?

YES IT HAS WIFI

although it does not come with an Ethernet Cable so if you decide that you want to go wired instead make sure you pick one up

well... go for a wired connection if you can. Wireless connections drop occasional "packets" of information in transit, and so they must be requested to be sent again, which can cause lag on servers regardless of ping.

that being said, wireless is a very easy set up. i used it for quite a while. all you need is the key you mentioned.

What is a WEP key? Where do you find that?
