Does anyone know of any on ps3? For example, super smash brothers is the type of game where it takes about 5 minutes to learn all the attacks, and all the characters have the same imputs for their own attacks. It's a game that is very easy to just pick up and play with a decent amount of skill. Games like mortal kombat and soul calibur on the other hand I've found have extremely long move lists that you have to study and remember for days, and each character has their own combos with their own specific button combinations. Essentially what I'm asking is if there are any fighting games that don't require studying move lists to be decent. I'de like to play this game with friends when they come over, and they aren't going to want to sit there trying to memorize a 10 page long move list. Thanks.

As a big fan of fighting games i feel the the current generation of fighting games have been so overly simplified that it sickens me. Developers nowadays are catering to people just like you who dont want to put in the time to learn by adding features like assist gems, auto combos, and simplified/shortcut commands. Well if holding forward and pressing a punch button is too hard to remember to throw a fireball for you then i don't know what to tell ya. You might have to wait till Playstation battle royale, or whatever its called, is released or just go back to playing COD.

I think you're missing the point. Spending hours learning a characters move list doesn't take skill, it just takes time. Also, you must not play as many fighters as you claim if you think holding forward and pressing a punch button is the depth of any fighter on the planet. And finally, I don't know what playing cod has to do with anything. I don't play cod, but it's not a fighter anyways, so you have no point.

Well Street Fighter has a simple movelist, but if you don't want to learn movesets at all, pickings are slim.

Actually i play lots of fighters and you're unaware that capcom implemented a system in SFxT that made throwing a fireball as easy as Forward and punch (or something as simple as that, not sure of the exact input command b/c 1/4 circle plus punch is already pretty easy as is, so i never used the easy commands). And time is the very thing you complained about seeing how you said you didnt want to invest time to memorize a move list that would take you days as stated in your OP. But it's ok, i can tell you're a novice at fighters b/c you seem to think that memorizing moves is what it takes to be good at them when if fact that couldn't be further from the truth. And lastly, if you didnt get the COD reference then I guess your lacking at reading between the lines as well.

I've looked into persona 4 arena from the suggestions, and it looks really good. Gonna have to give that a shot for sure.

So one game has the ability to do fireballs by pressing forward and punch (Assuming you're right), so all fighters somehow lack depth nowdays? I don't even know what you're trying to say anymore, none of it makes any sense. I'm guessing you're trying to say I don't want to spend any time and just want to be good. I'm okay with spending time on game mechanics, but spending time trying to memorize a characters move list isn't fun. I don't recall ever saying all fighters just require you to memorize moves to be good. If I said that, why would I be looking for a fighter to play in the first place? And I really still need an explanation on this whole call of duty thing your going on about. What does call of duty have to do with fighters and why should I care?

Games like Blazblue and Marvel vs Capcom 3 have beginner modes that make moves easier to do, also there are much less moves to memorize in those two games compaired to Soul Caliber and Tekken. I would personally suggest Blazblue because it's my favorite fighting game, and it's very similar to P4:Arena.

Fightining games need to be more accesible to everyone. I've just started to get good at playing them but it took a lot of practice, and that causes casual gamers to shy away from the genere.

I found Mortal Kombat very welcoming. It is simple, but offers a grand amount of depths for more advanced players too. Part of the reason of why I consider the best fighting game out there.

You can check out the Deadliest Warrior or its superior sequel Deadliest Warrior Legends from PSN or buy the standone disc version which has both versions.

Brutal and simple to play fighting game. No massive set of button combinations to remember and you can chop off limbs and shoot people in the head with projectile weapons - try doing that in Capcom vs Marvel or Soul Calibur V.

I think most fighting games are easy to pick up and learn the basics. However, almost every fighting game takes a little dedication and study to really understand the game and become much better.
