The EE or Emotion Engine is basically the chipset that propelled the PS2. It's the hardware behind the PS2. The PS3 originally came with it but Sony pulled it to cheapen the production cost of the PS3 and replaced it with an emulator.
how would u know if u have it and how would u tell the difference between having the chip and the software emulation.orphansoup
Don't worry about it. I have a European PS3 and its backwards compatibility is great. I can play all my PS1 and PS2 games, and they even work better than they do on PS2, 'cause the emulation process is taking advantage of the powerful PS3 hardware. Once the American PS3s lose their Emotion Engine chip, PS3 emulated backwards compatibility will be 100% or near 100% anyway, since it's being improved for every update.
