I'm guessing you're referring to the telephone cables in the wall. I'm afraid it doesn't work that way.
How are you connected to the Internet with your computer? Or are you accessing these forums from work?
If you are already hooked up at home to the Internet you need a router so you can share your Internet connection between multiple devices. Answer a few questions and I'm sure one of us can help: which model of the PS3 do you own? Do you have a router? Is your PC already connected to the Internet? What kind of Internet connection do you have at home?
ps3 only accepts broadband conections. I.e Cable,DSL. etckidroc3039
should be able to use the ethernet cable that goes fromyour modem to computer. Without a router u will only be able do use computer or ps3 online one at a time but it should work
Or use the cord that came with ur ps3, remember to plug in the wires and unplug ur modem and turn off ps3, than turn on modem until it has internet and than turn on ur ps3 and than ur set.
So I will need a router then? Because i got an ethernet cable for my PS3 Slim but it won't fit in to the other socket on my modem. I'd have to take out that cable that's already in it and plug the spare ethernet in the socket but i wont my computer internet. Any good routers you know that is cheap but great to use?

PS3 comes with an ethernet cable? ** Tries to find old PS3 box**
Linksys WRT54GL is an old standby, although as it's out of production the price has slowly been creeping up. Really, any new router is going to be mostly comparable in quality. I'd just go for whatever you can find that's reasonably cheap - asus, d-link, ******, cysco (linksys), etc. Online stores seem to have a router or two for $30 or less every week.So I will need a router then?
