so heres the situation. i might trade with someone my 40gb ps3 & $50, for his 60gb ps3. but i already have saved data on my ps3 that i want (game saves). is there a way i can save that data somewhere and then put it on the other ps3, like maybe a usb flash drive? if anyone could answer I'd REALLY apreciate it.

why don't you just follow the guide lines for changing out your hard drive. You won't be able to keep your user name though. I believe that is specific to you PS3 serial number, correct me if I am wrong.

Get a usb/external HDD and backup/copy all the data on it.Through the system setting. And i guess you obviously cant exchange the HDD ?? Than there would be no use of exchanging your PS3.

Just use a big enough USB flash drive save your game saves, make the trade, insert the flash drive into the 60 gig save it. You can also recover your existing account for your name and to redownload previously purchased items.
