A while ago, a link was posted on the Platinum Games forum leading to a NeoGAF post that contained the contents of leaked information and notes from a meeting between Sega and SCEA executives. I was only interested in the post because it hinted at the content Bayonetta would have.

Quoted below are said notes:

SCEA Meeting Aug 5th Notes

Aug 6 2009 – DRAFT FOR COMMENTS

Objectives of Meeting
Dyer agreed to regular quarterly meetings with SOA

Sony PS3
SCEA reiterated plans to sell 13 million PS3s this year
Big announcement back half of year they can't talk about (potentially price cut of PS3 to reach hardware goals)
SCEA commented on indexing between PS3 and 360 SKUs, should be around 2:1 to garner most favorable treatment.

Motion Controller
Spring 2010 launch (March in JP)
No bundle/pricing details yet, should come Sept 1
Plan on selling 4-5MM units WW
SCEA agreed to provide a list of Sega IP that would work well with the motion controller, Virtua Tennis was an example
Motion Controller support allows easy way to differentiate PS3 SKU
Other differentiation opportunities include PSP/PS3 interoperability – think of features that would make users want to buy both PS3 and PSP SKUs.

Alpha Protocol
Michael Foster, product evaluator, said AP felt barely RPG. Initial level too challenging for players. "Mass Effect felt more RPG."
Review notes sent to John Merlino a few weeks prior. After meeting Gerald mentioned AP is a high priority for his team.

Planet 51
Sell in of PS3 SKU – SCEA noted that other movie titles on PS3 had underperformed as well (inc. Transformers) this cycle.
Dyer suggests contacting Susan at Walmart and asking what she wants in the pack to sell this SKU (movie tix etc)
Other possibilities are Hybrid movie disc (BD 25 or 50 with Game and Movie on same disc).

Bayonetta
Collectors edition with Bayonetta Action Figure
Novo recommended launching PSN demo around Xmas based off a Jan 5th Ship date with 2-3 week run out to launch.
3-4 weeks is usually ideal demo timing with fresh content every week leading up to launch (trailers, insider video about PG heritage, video blogs).

Vancouver 2010
HOME, Olympic destination would garner a lot of positive attention from SCEA
Should be doing same with Bayonetta, Marvel etc. Easy to launch in all territories.
HOME merchandizing opportunities (clothes etc).

Sonic Racing
Open to DLC to differentiate PS3 SKU – not ratchet and clank but other characters
maybe characters from Rare or Fable universes

Yakuza
Could put Japanese games directly on PSN for download in a special Japanese Import section(pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game).
Might need to localize menus at least with subtitles.
SCEA interested in helping on MKTG side if they can have period of exclusivity.

AVP
Another great HOME candidate
AVP avatars
Hybrid BD disc with movie

Iron Man 2
Great candidate for HOME space – explore Tony Stark's lab etc.
Should have one for Marvel in general.

PSU2
Could do bundle at GameStop with PSP 30-35K units on UMD, Go, or both.

Valkyria 1937
Could bundle with PSP as well.

Vanquish and Aliens: CM
Opportunity for PS3/PSP interoperability (see Eidos Batman, Army of Two, Assassin's Creed for good examples).
If we offer that SCEA would be really interested in having us at their booth next E3.

Thor
SCEA would like a look at the code soon.

Sonic Anniversary
Could put out collectors edition with all old sonic games on one BD disc.
"Best of Sonic" for around $99.
SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (like Castlevania's flip it over/backwards)

PS2 emulator for PS3 (confidential)
SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN (GTA Vice City/Sonic/etc)
For co Marketing money show PS3 controller on TV ads – similar to EA Madden Spots, NCAA, etc…

London Olympics
Perfect opportunity for Motion Controller integration.

DC Digital Titles
If we provide a list of DC titles SCEA will let us know which ones they're interested in having exclusively.
If we give them a long period of exclusivity they'll give us more marketing support.

PSP Titles
For SKU differentiation it's best to offer features that are slightly different from PS3 version.
Titles that are coming up on PSP are Assassin's Creed II, GTA China Wars, Resident Evil, Little Big Planet – all massive franchises.

SCEA has a specific PSP deck which they can send up with their hardware director for a chat.Sega

The points of interest are bolded red.

Soon after, rumors began to flood the internet of the possibility of Dreamcast and PS2 games making their way onto PSN. Notice how Vanquish was included in the document, but at the time of its circulation, the game hadn't even been announced - not until just recently. Basically, the game was announced a long time ago and we didn't even know it.

If that's the case with Vanquish, could PS2 and DC games be on their way?

Oh and by the way, I think it's safe to say that Vanquish will at least be a PS3 game, considering from what's shown in there, they want to do PS3/PSP interoperability, like Resistance and Assassin's Creed.

Sony could easily give us PS2 Emulation

I mean if somebody working on a PS2 emulator in their basement can do it, why can't a huge corporation who designed it do it?

I am sure we will see BC this year

i wonder if that means it will be the same BC emulation software that the 80gb PS3's have.... because they can't play MGS3... arguably the PS2's best game...

I have a BC 80gb, I can play MGS3 just fine. You can just play the MGS3 2nd disc for Substance.

I feel the same way, if a 13 year old can figure out how to put all these hacks on psp/iphones why can't a major corporation do the same?

I have a 60 gig, so I'm fortunate enough to have the emulation since day one. Now, being able to download DC titles... that will be sweet.

Sony is figuring out how can they profit from this. Sony has the PS3 at $299 and but no question will this boost the PS3 sales even more, but Sony is thinking why release PS2 emulation when ppl will just go the Gamestop route? Besides potential PS3 sales, whats the incentive here? Right now they can release ICO since thats a rare game but MGS2(orginal version) you can find for $5 at Gamestop. Why pay $15 for the PSN version? I have the MGS4 bundle which means BC for me so im set. But i want full BC with in game xmb features. Also for those who dont have BC or PS2, if Sony was to charge for BC, how much will you willing to pay?

They could charge PS2 games from $5-$15 on PSN. Also, they could probably also bring back full BC on all PS3s so can read PS2 disc games.

what PS2 games are worth $15. Again i think people will buy ICO but MGS2(2001)= $5 Vice City(2002)= $6 Okay both God Of War games are in that $17 range. But what about resell?

Well both God of War games for the PS2 are useless now, since the God of War Collection is out. And with the $10 price cut, it's now $30. Well you are right. Most PS2 games now are about $5. Sony probably will be smart and charge all PS2 games about $5.

They can easily set the prices based on market value. If most stores are selling a game for five bucks, then Sony should price the DD for five bucks.

It is interesting, cause no doubt sony have been toying with PS2 downloaded games on PSN, but dreamcast as well? That would be sweeet.

This also caught my eye.

"Yakuza
Could put Japanese games directly on PSN for download in a special Japanese Import section(pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game).
Might need to localize menus at least with subtitles.
SCEA interested in helping on MKTG side if they can have period of exclusivity."

Oooh, this means they are thinking about putting japanese downloadable games onto PSN, with its own Import section! that would be great!

I think Sony made a mistake in removing the BC from the PS3 new models, I know a lot of people will say "well if you want to play PS2 games then play it or buy on the PS2" still people would like to have free space for their new system and if that system can play games from the other previous consoles then that will make the buyer happy.

Yeah but everyone who does buy a PS2 gets the games used and Sony doesn't see a dime of that. They could make alot more money selling all PS2 software on PSN than selling a few thousand PS2's every week. I don't know about all this leaked info stuff, but I do believe that Sony has had that thought pattern. It was likely one of the reasons they pulled BC from the PS3 in the first place. It has the potential to be just as lucrative as the Virtual Console is for Nintendo.

You know I never cared about Sony bringing BC back to PS3 since I already had a BC PS3, but now that I have my Japanese PS3, I've been thinking, and I would like to see them bring BC back so I can play some international versions of games with extra content, namely FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, KH Final Mix, and KHII Final Mix +.

PS4 will be out by the time that will happen. But I really want to know how the Software side of the PS2 business is doing
