heyi am thinking of upgrading my hard driva and am wondering if i can just hook up an external hardrive and keep all my save data in my ps3 while saving new things to the external hard drive?

ok, i haven't heard this one before. I think you could, but there might be a few strings attached. (or wires, lol) You could put the save files on the EXT HD, but i'm not sure the system would automatically search it for saves... for sure, you could not put actual games on the EXT HD, (like PSN titles) cuz the PS3 engines can't access them. You are better off just getting a 500gb INT HD and saving everything right on there. At least, you are guaranteed that will work. Although, i recommend you back up your save data onto the EXT HD every month or so, because new hard drives don't seem to be as stellar as the one that comes with the PS3, but by all means, upgrade, it's very nice

Yes, to an extent, some data can be saved to the external HDD. The HDD you choose must be formatted to FAT32.
