My PS3 crapped out a while back, so I tried to put my old hdd in and it said it needed to format, so I didn't go through with it because I don't want to lose all my saves. I went and bought a Nippon Labs 2.5 external sata hdd kit from newegg, but I can't get it to recognize the drive. I tried it on my computer and I can see it in device manager, but it doesn't appear in my computer. I read that sometimes the front usb slots on your pc aren't 2.0 so I tried it on the back and that didn't work either. Then I tried it on my PS3 and nothing. Has anyone gone through this or know what to do? Thanks

If it shows up on your computer in device manager, you'll have to right click and assign it a drive letter (pick something a ways down the alphabet to avoid conflicts). You should be able to open and browse it then. I should clarify - to assign a drive letter open your control panel (assuming Vista or Windows 7), go to System/Security and Admin Tools. Should be a drive management option or in 7, 'create and format hard disk partitions.' Or just type 'disk management' into your start menu and it should pop up.

When I get in there it says its unallocated. I'm afraid to go much further for fear of losing the data from formatting, and will doing this even make it work on my PS3?

And I'm 27. So if I started my account in 2002, that makes about...49 I believe. I don't know math :)
