My first playthrough, this happened at the eastern end of the map right by the end "wall". Just a random boom and it seemed like a fireball came down from the sky and it spread the alien gun ammo everywhere (happened at night). I didn't see the gun itself. But I found it later at the original crash site once I found out about it online (looking for the strongest weapon). It's never happened again yet (3rd playthrough) but it was in a dead region that had nothing but Rad Scorpions. Also picked up the Chinese radio signal there too and I was playing the good guy at the time.
ive played the game at least 10 times, ive gotten it twice now, i hav found an easy way to get it but it may take awhile to actually get it, i also hav all the achievements (trophies) for the game too
