I'm goin to best buy tonight and would like to pick up a new game. Is the goty edition of fallout 3 really that buggy? I would like to play this before New Vegas and am skeptical about picking it up. This will be my first time playing fallout 3, I don't have the original game.(If that matters?)

I have the original and even it is not really buggy at all. Go for the GOTY, just save often and you won't have any problems.

Ok thanks. Did you finish the original and not have any problems throughout?

I completely finished the original, doing pretty much everything. I remember once or twice the sky would go all funky but the problem would correct itself in a matter of seconds. Also it froze on me a few times, but with any game this is to be expected (it may have been that I was playing on my PS3 for to long). I may have been lucky but I didn't experience any serious glitches (if there are any). If anything, I'd expect the GOTY to perform better than the original.

Somwhere else I read it was the other way around - the GOTY was less buggy than the stand alone game with the DLC's?

I have just seen some reviews online from users and see that the game corrupts your game saves. Is this really true? I don't want to fork over hours of time only to have the save get corrupted.

I've never had a game save corrupted in that game. It's probably because they quit the game when it was saving, which is their fault and not the games. If you're that worried about it just back up your save on a USB drive.

It's buggy, but it shouldn't ruin the game for you. The game is not broken, it just has a few minor hiccups.

I'd be careful if your thinking about going for the GOTY edition. I get on Bethesda's forums a good bit, and I've seen a lot of people who are having big problems with the GOTY edition. I've been reading about save files being corrupted after a certain amount of play time and odd stuff like that. I have the original Fallout 3 and it gives me almost no problems, so I'm only going off what I've seen other people post about the GOTY. I'd advise doing some research on it before you decide for sure.

I bought the original FO3 and I loved it so much I bought the GOTY edition. It runs just fine...until you get to the additional content. I've had numerous game freezes...but from what I hear, every person has their own experience with "hiccups", be it FO3 or GOTY.

Just watch out during Operation: Anchorage. Lags like hell at a certain point. Other than that, you should be fine.

Currently playing F3 GotY.

The game is just fine. I've had a couple a freezes in 60 hours of game play.

Just completed Point Lookout problems.

The game is Epic. Tons of playing hours and High Replay Value.

My GOTY edition has frozen a couple times, but I save often so it wasn't too devastating. I can definitely be discouraging though if you happen to lose a lot of data from a freeze.

Its amazing, despite the large amount of frame rate, glitches and freezing issues. Just save frequently :)

Mine froze in Rivet City, but it had saved automatically just before, so did not lose progress. Watch out when you get there.

Im thinking about getting Fallout 3 GOTYE on pc. The ps3 one was fine, when i got to the Broken steel it began to have a couple glitches, started to act slower than normal. After i complete it, it was fine, Mothership Zeta, the odd prob, but that was it. Operation Anchorage was fine for lets say 15mins then my god! i had to keep saving and loading. Even to this day ive not even moved an inch, the bugs are terrible. Few weeks back i loaded the game, 2 seconds and bam, it froze. I had to turn it off and reload and again, 2-3 seconds later, it froze. I cant even complete it lol :(. Im shocked they didnt fix the bugs for it :(, spoils a very good game :'(

OP I was in the same position as you, I never bought FO3 GOTY because everyone said it was unplayable. Now I picked it up 2 weeks ago for 30 bucks new, playing it tons ever since and it only froze on me once. However I have not started the expansions yet, and most people complain about the freezing in the expansion packs, or when your savegame / memory grows out of bounds. But so far I have been having loads of fun with the game, and it's definately worth picking up IMO.

I had the original fallout 3 then decided I would get game of the year edition. To start with the game runs perfectly fine however the more time you invest in the game (not just in one sitting) the poorer the frame rate seems to get. However the game is awesome enough to be worth enduring it, I wish you could compact the amount of space it takes, same with Oblivion.

My only problem with FO3 GOTY, apart from the odd freeze which is expected, was the lag-fest halfway through Operation: Anchorage. Didn't freeze, but was running at probably less than a frame a second.
