Trying to decide which to buy. Yes Broken Steel gives you a level cap and plenty of new equipment, but I'm looking for a different approach to fallout 3, to maybe revive my interest. The level cap would be nice(bang for the buck ;)) but then again, a marsh like atmosphere with the inbred guys from Deliverence? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! But my question is, which should I go for, which is better overall, and which will I enjoy more? I'm stuck.

I had this dilemma a few months ago, actually.

I ended up buying BS since the level cap really outweighed any of the pros that came with PL. BS still managed to keep the story interesting after you beat the initial campaign, and there are even new places in the Wasteland to explore with expansion installed.

That's my take on BS... don't know about PL.

Broken Steel. I prefer it because unlike Point Lookout, Broken Steel is integrated in with the Capital Wasteland and you don't spend the entire DLC at another place.

Broken Steel goes better with other ones, with the higher level cap and all. I've bought all of them, and although Point Lookout is considerably different and a large area, I didn't enjoy it as much as Broken Steel.

Buy the GOTY edition. Sell your current copy if you have to.

I picked up a copy for $30 a while back - surely it's less than that somewhere right now.

edit - if you really do just want one, I'd get Point Lookout. The new perks and level cap are nice (and go well with all the other DLC), but Broken Steel's missions are boring as hell.

Anchorage and Zeta are by far the worst two pieces of DLC, as they focus too much on combat and are WAY longer than they have any right being as their respective environments will grate on you after less than an hour. The Pitt isn't awful, but it too focuses more on combat than it should nearer the end.

For that matter, Broken Steel is pretty mindless in its "Go here, kill **bleep**" mentality but at least the leveling and perks add something else.

Point Lookout feels like more of all of the main Fallout 3 game in a new area, as you get a better blend of searching out map markers, killing stuff, and interacting with characters. It's why I'd recommend the GOTY edition, as the increased level cap and perks are very nice to have with Point Lookout.

I would go with Broken Steel because it raises the level cap, it adds to the story, and it makes it so you can still play after beating it. So you can still do side quests that you didn't finish.

I liked Point Lookout better. It looks significantly different than the other areas of the game, so it's a nice change of location.

Point Lookout. You get a brand new creepy area, and as you mentioned, inbred dudes to blast away :P

The poll made me laugh. In terms of essential DLC? Broken Steel. The most interesting DLC? Point LookOut hands down; it brings a new creepy atmosphere to the game. I loved creeping through the swamps at 3AM in the morning to be ambushed by two 7foot screaming hillbillys.
