Fallout 3 question! Mutant friend?

he is in the town with 2 bars in it.... rivet city maybe? there is a sidequest to get him. i forget his nameFriedTech

Do you mean a super-mutant? Big green dude? That Fawkes, he's part of the main quest there is an optional objective to save him, if you do save him he follows you around and helps you fight.

You need high karma to recruit him I think.  So if you've been an evil S.O.B. then you're screwed :P. He's pretty much the strongest and most useful joinable NPC in the game.

I was watching a youtube vid, and someone had a mutant that followed him around... like dogmeat. So does anyone know what the mutants name is and where to find him?bsman00

those allies are useless anyway. most of the time i had to save there Arss (and waste my ammo, mind you) and they die to frigging easy, especially if theres more then one enemy around..im a lone wolf nowLP4EVA2005

actually i agree with the other guy. they are pretty much invinceable except for a few of them. the robot sarge guy. he SUCKS! he died in like 15 minutes. i also had the supermute and currently i have this ghoul merc. hes beastly. i have him in tesla armor witha combat shotgun and he kills supermutes in 2 hits. death claws are a strugle for him. he killed 2 by himself though. he had 2 bars of health left also. but also. if he just stays out of battle for 48 hours or so he regenerates all his health. oh anddd. i had him in the capitol building where the supermute was and all the talon mercs were dead so i like him kill the supermutant bohemoth all he did was stand in the doorway and he took him out. that easy..

When your looking for the G.E.C.K. You can hear him talking in one of the test chamber things. I think to get him you need good karma though, so if you play the game as a dick, you wont get him. After you free him he will retrieve the G.E.C.K. for you. He also has his own super-sledge so he wont use your ammo. *SPOILER ALERT* And after being captured (and escaping) the enclave, he will be outside there with a mini-gun (I think thats what it was.) He's also radiation resistant. But the part that sucks is (ANOTHER SPOILER) If you choose to activate Project Purity, (You can also have Lyon's do it, or do neither, and just stand there.) Fawkes will follow you into the chamber, but if you ask him to activate it, he will refuse saying something about how its your "destiny" and that "Your story ends here."

I am having much trouble finding , letting alone, getting the GECK. HOW Can I find it, and how can I get it if Fawkes wont work with me ?

I see the GECK on the map, but I cant get there. I took the Lamplight tunnels and went into Valut 87 thru the back door in the reactor chamber, really cool way to get to vault 87. Better than Murder row. But once your in the vault for awhile, lots of mutants in there, they block off youre only escape back to the caverns, so you are forced to go thru the Murder row to get back. Its tough, but easier if you have the ghoul helper.

You had better take your biggest guns, and tons of frag granades, and take the Ghoul with you, he is a tough guy, he looks for the fights, gets right in front, takes the bullets, while I toss grenades over his head into the room. That ghoul is vicious with the combat shotgun !! HE hits super mutants in 2 shots. Sometimes I hear him yell out " I could use some help here". I dont think he uses any of my ammo, I think his ammo is unlimited somehow. Cause he always has the same amount of ammo every time I look. He is my pack mule and carries tons of stuff for me. NOw I am in the lab, and see Fawkes, but I have negative Karma ( for taking out Megaton) and enslaving a tenpenny resident to the slavers. So I wonder what will happen if i release Fawkes, will he attack me ? or fight with me but refuse to join me as a partner ? I may have to save my game, and try it out. Anyone free Fawkes that had negative karma ? what happened ?

First off, Fawkes is nearly indestructible, you wont have to bail him out, in fact he'll be bailing you out. And also human followers can hold your gear for you. So the more followers you have, the more loot you can carry at once...

Fawkes is part of the main quest, one of the last missions you'll meet him.
