I, honestly, believe Far Cry 2 is one of the best shooters I have ever played. And I have played a good amount, so I believe my statement considers a good amount of shooter games. Now, this game does have it share of problems most notably, as the TC mentioned, is the rushed dialogue - it is not a gameplay issue but it is noticable. But I believed this effect was meant to keep the game feeling fast-paced, as if you were to be constantly on the run in the game.
I think the repetitiveness of the game stems from the players approach to situations. If a player is constantly going head first into a firefight, then the game will seem repetitive. I have played the game and managed to kill 3 or 4 people using one bullet - which shocked me because I ended up killing the guy I was aiming at, after missing him, by hitting a fuel tank of some sort. While other times I ran in took every one out whie trying to find cover to heal myself, then a malaria attack hits...randomly.
Far Cry 2 is a game that definitely takes shooters to a new level - sort of how the original Far Cry did with FPS stealth. It really does give the player a lot of ways to play the game. The only thing I wished they had added into the game was fully-customizable weapons, that would have been great.
