Given the amount of negativity on these forums directed at Far Cry 2, I thought I'd comment on the matter. I've had this game a couple of days now, and whilst I'm not very far in, I'll give you my initial impressions.

Graphics:

Graphically, Far Cry 2 is stunning. The lighting has a lot to do with this and, when everything comes together, very little can touch Far Cry on the PS3. Framerates are pretty much solid throughout, even when you've got explosions, multiple enemies and fire. When it does dip, which is fairly rare, we're only talking to about 25fps.

The screen tearing that people keep going on about is, again, rare. It happens occasionally, and generally not when you would expect it. However, it is no worse than that found in Uncharted, and unless you care about this type of thing, I doubt you will notice it.

Pop-in does occur, but generally very minor and the environments are so lush you don't really realise it is happening, unless you are looking for it. Occasionally when driving very fast noticeable textures pop-in, but for an open world shooter as stunning as this, it is hardly a deal breaker. GTA4 was a lot worse when it came to pop-in, and the graphics were no where near Far Cry 2.

To be honest, I have been amazed at how well Far Cry 2 runs on the PS3.

Gameplay:

Again, it's fairly solid. The story takes a while to get into, as does the shooting, but once you accept this aint no "wham bam thank you mamm" shooter, you find that the controls are very good.

I'm not very far in so I won't comment on the story too much more, but it is no where as bad as people are trying to make out. I do agree, however, that they could have included more dangerous animals etc. Oh, and enemies can sometimes be a little strong.

Multiplayer:

Only played this a bit, but it is great fun. You can really use cover and lighting to your advantage. Maps can sometimes be a bit big when there are only 4 of you in a game, but hopefully the game will see more players soon.

Enemies can be dangerous sometimes. They`ill try to chase you down on cars, they`ill corner you, they`ill take cover not only at one place but keep on changing their positions. The AI is very nicely put together but sometimes it can get a BIT faulty(too realistic),that happens very rarely though.Actually its not faulty but just realism when you shoot a person he doesnt fly 5 feet and than fall or he doesnt even feel the bullet for the first ten or so minutes just like hollywood movies and other most other shooters. In reality when you shoot a guy he starts feeling the pain after his wound becomes cold.......So that all is a "Fault" according to what we know :D.

Anyway the game is simply superb,by far the most realistic one i have ever played.

Actually I wouldn't base this game on first impressions. Because the more I play the game the more I like it. Now that I'm used to the controls I'm really loving it.

The best moment so far is when I decided to just not care about the missions/story/game and just go for a ride off-road. There I was driving, then decided to get out of the car. Soon enough I came across about four deers. . So I sniped one of them. Thought I'd run back to the car, started driving again. Bearing in mind this is the middle of the night. Saw a fire in the background. Thought I'd take a look using the sniper rifle (bearing in mind this was in the middle of nowhere and this place wasn't on my map). And right there saw some fella taking a p1ss. Then when he finished I noticed he started talking to one of his buddies. Soon enough I sniped all three of them and they didn't have a clue were the bullets were coming from. I ran to their makeshift camp made out of an old bus, took one of their diamonds and took their go-cart. (it's fast). There was a sense of immersion because it was really unexpected.

Bearing in mind that enemies are always on the look out on the roads. Its good just driving off road. And it's fun to see people driving past in the distance on the lookout. (Especially at night)

First impressions I wasn't so sure. I thought this game would't be enjoyable because it seriously thinks about realism. I'd have given it a 8 or 8.5/10 at that time, at the moment I'm giving it 9/10.

The AI is realistic, sometimes they can be "to realistic". My favorite moment, was when there was enemy soldier laying there shooting his pistol at me, like the last stand on Saving Private Ryan. Since it was so epic, I was going to let him live, but then I decided to burn him instead.

Is it just me, because when then Enemy jeep makes that VRUMMM! noise, and about to smack you, that kind of scares me at times.
