after 3 consecutive ps3 slims over 3 weeks, THEY ALL had the same problem with the disc drive which wasnt normal and i was annoyed enough without being able to play my ps2 games on it. so now, after a few months i just ordered a ps3 60gb backwards compatibile model, mainly to play my ps2 games slightly upscaled. i think that the build quality of the old fattys are MUCH better,

I like the slim one but I am stuck with fatty. I wish the slim one had the shine which fatty one has.

You know, I bought the Uncharted 3 bundle, and I'm assuming it's the slim version, but I was surprised by how beefy the thing is. I mean, it's still bulkier than the original PS2. Makes me wonder exactly how "fat" the early versions of the PS3 were.

Personally, and I'm probably in the minority here, I like bulky, hefty machines. They might not be slick and pretty, but they just feel more workhorse-like and built to last. I miss the days of huge, boxy cars that were actually built using steel instead of fiberglass, aluminum, and frickin' Tupperware. I want my DVD/Blu-Ray player to have some weight to it, not pride itself on being less than 2" thick, under 3 lbs. and not much bigger than a hardback book. And I like my gaming console to feel solid enough that I could bash in an intruder's skull with it and then go right back to playing my games while I wait for the coroner to claim the body. The PS2 Slim just look and felt like a cheap, shoddy, disposable piece of crap. And while that's sadly and infuriatingly the current trend with electronics, it's not at all appealing to me.

The slim systems are superior to the fatties for several reasons: larger hard drive, runs cooler, processes faster, is built better.

I just wish they were PS2 bc.

It's not that big of a deal, since I pretty much shelved my Xbox 360 and only have the Gamecube, PS3, and PS2 out. I mostly only have to change the input to play something else. The problem is the length of the PS2 controller wire, which won't go all the way to my couch or anything.

I had both of the mt original 60 gig played all 3 as you all know, but hard times hit had to sell it and now have 120 gig slim and I think it runns much quieter and cooler. However I did like the look on my fatty better. So for me it's a draw.

I've heard the slims are more reliable (probably won't get ylod) but I can't imagine the fatty ps3 being to bad unless you play it constantly or do something to it that's hard on it.

A new slim, it'll probably last longer than a used fatty.

I prefer the Slim, haven't had any issues with it yet, whereas with my 2 'fat' PS3's they got the YLOD after a year or two...

I still have the first and only 60 gig system that's still going strong. The thing is I never shut the thing down and have never had a issue with the hardware. I have had a number of software glitches from certain games that were cured by just restarting the system. I did replace the thermal paste and cleaned it out completely about a year ago.

I had a 60GB system that died just a couple months ago. I bought a slim and it's pretty nice, but I still prefer the original design in all it's shininess. It was also quite a bit quieter as well.
