Im sure most people here who dont have MGS1 as their favourite have played it recently or as part of the essential collection or after the PS2/PS3 was released, cuz trust me ..if you played the game when it released like me, It would be your favourite ..no contest.. ^_^

I played it back then and I still own it, no Essentials... and I still stand on my ranking.

I've played MGS1 in 98 and I still find MGS4,2 to be better games
To be honest, I see it as 1 massive experience as the games aren't exactly seperate. But control wise, I would say MGS1 is the least cause there's no FPV shooting (much like MGS2 or MGS TTS). I'm sorry, but FPV to me makes a world of difference. The original MGS1 didn't let you see what's ahead of you and to be able to do something about it. MGS4 I would give as the best controls with MGS3 a close second.
