Looking back San Andreas was the best but at the time they were released, Vice City was best at the time. Reason why is it just popped out of nowhere and shocked me! I had to much hope for San Andreas and was left a little dissapointed

Vice City was the best. I love the 80's vibe to the game and Vercetti was just badass.GazzaB
I cant really choose. GTA 3 was something new. Vice City had the Scar Face theme in it. San Andreas had a good story. GTA4's main character is russian or what?
Yea good point, Vercetti was a brilliant character, should've brought him back for GTA IV! Another reason I didn't like San Andread.. I didnt like the character Carl!

Only because he was black? I just hope this GTA will live up to the previous ones.
No of course not! He just didnt't seem to have the edge like Vercetti! So not because he was black! Im no racist.

i'd say vice city, it was the most addictive!blinkFx
True, owning the estates was one of the best parts.
Vice City was my favourite by far followed by GTA III. I really disliked San Andreas and found it boring and i wasnt hooked to the main character Carl. Vercetti was by far the best and how can you go wrong with having Ray Liotta doing the mobsters voice? Perfection....

Agreed! It was heavely influenced by films like scarface which imo was awesomness!!!!!!

Yea something like that, they've confirmed he's eastern european and his name is Nicko Bellic ;)-Aaron
GTA3. That was my first next gen (when PS2 was next gen) experience, nothing else was even close to that previously. Everything is awesome about that game. I played it so much, got %100 a few times, collected the unique cars etc. The city is the best ever! Maybe because it felt a little familiar to Minneapolis St.Paul which I live about 20 minutes from.
I really disliked VC, hated the 80s theme, and just really disliked the whole flat city- I was able to finish it with the bare minimums 1 time. SA was cool, the environment and everything you could do in it was amazing but it didn't hook me and I never got much farther after leaving the 1st city. Maybe I will give SA another try since I won't be able to play GTA4 since I won't buy a non-BC PS3.
III holds a special place for me because it was one of those few video games that I saw and was totally blown away by it. But I'd have to say as an overall game, Vice City. It's bigger, deeper, has better characters, a better setting...
I liked San Andreas a lot, but in a way I felt like it was trying to hard and, in spots, took itself too seriously. The representations of LA, San Fran and LV are excellent, better graphics, bigger maps, more missions, and better voice acting (James Woods was incredible in that game!), but in a way, I'm leaning towards Vice City as my favorite.
Personally I have to say Vice City is my favourite, Vercetti is an awesome lead character, but my favourite character in the game is without a doubt Ken Rosenberg, the lawyer based on Sean Penn's character from the movie Carlito's Way.
GTA III comes in a close second, and San Andrea, unfortunately, comes last, because it was the most disappointing, and least gripping in the series IMO, though I still had plenty of fun with it.
Now I just hope GTAIV can live up to the hype, and knock Vice City off the top spot.

Exactly. Ray Liotta was perfect for Vice City, that's my favorite of the GTA's.

I was just about to start this same exact topic, lucky I saw this before I posted anything!
My favorite GTA would have to be Grand Theft Auto III. I liked the whole "mob" vibe you got from it. It was also something totally new to next generation gaming at the time, there was no other game like it. I spent endless hours playing it. Vice City was good as well, I really liked the 80's theme and like a lot of people have said I really liked the main character, he was my favorite one out of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. San Andreas was also good, but it didnt pull me in as much as the other two did and I wound up never actually completeing it. It offered alot of new things like the customization and how you could work out and stuff which was pretty cool, but other then some new features and stuff, I just didnt get as into it as the other other two. Still, a good game though. Overall, III would get my vote!
