I know this game has plenty of mixed opinions, but from playing it recently again, it's not THAT bad as how it gets received.

Personally, I hated the game from the start to end, it was a chore playing through the game and as with that aside, I still had the need to finish it as I do with all games. But to me the game picks up post-game which is odd, but still, I've just been playing around with it and find it quite addictive. There are alot of flaws I find in the game, but I find myself still enjoying it as much as any other JRPG this gen, hence... it's not a bad game to how much hatred the game gets, myself included.

So, have you given this game another chance/would like to or do you cringe the thought of seeing 'FF XIII' around forums?

Coming from a huge FF fan, I was flabbergasted when I tried out this POS.

Ok, it's not THAT bad. But I really have some quirks with how the battle system was designed, I'm not a big fan of the whole fast-paced RPG style and the leveling system is garbage too. It just felt way too constricting compared to the earlier FFs. I got to Ch.11 and had to put it down because of the huge difficulty curve that takes place there. Been regreting picking it up and playing it again, but I do wanna finish it.

Whenever a game takes an extremely story-driven approach like XIII then opinion will be divided. Love the story and the characters? Then you'll love the game. You find the story to be boring and the characters annoying? You won't like the game. XIII-2 looks better, but then I'd have to finish XIII....

I by no means LOVED FFXIII. However, I did enjoy the experience from start to finish. I didn't mind the gradual opening up of gameplay mechanics and I embraced the steep difficulty increases every so often. When you maxed out the Crystarium for the time being, you had to resort to upgrading weapons and accessories and after that, it was all about your strategy and Shifts during the battles. Failure wasn't the game's fault; it was yours. That was something new that I hadn't really experienced in any other RPG I'd ever played. I'm eager to see what XIII-2 has to offer. Still, FFVII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, or XII, FFXIII is not.

Personally I loved it, my third PS3 favorite. I finished it twice and have recently started my third playthrough. Granted the story isn't the best story there is, but gameplay was great and there was a lot of fun content especially as you metioned in the post-game part.

I am one of the masses who thought the game basically sucked eggs. If not for the flashy graphics I would've thrown the disc in the gutter. It just sits now, collecting dust on my shelf, a lame game that just wasn't very entertaining to me. Squeenix has completely lost my faith at this point, they just aren't a very good developer, not like they used to be.

The only thing that could pull Squeenix out of the gutter for me is Deus Ex: HR now, if that flops then yeah, they are firmly in my "bottom of the barrel" dev list, right next to Zynga.
