wow this sucks. since final fantasy on 360 is getting a simultaneous release with the ps3 it is going to push the release date even farther. then they say they havent even started developmeent on the 360 so im wondering if they will even have it in by 2009. they should just release the ps3 version first. your thoughts?

It doesnt matter but u should fix ur topic title. (XIII)

I wasnt mad when ffXIII was comin for xbox 360, but the delay makes me mad. I think we will have it in late 2009.However, I like the fact that it is being made for ps3 first, so it will be as if meant for the ps3 in the first place, so it will be good.

TBH I think SE is taking too long for a project the size of an FF game. My guess is their developmental resources are spread pretty thin what with all the spin-off's, remakes and other projects they have outside of their core commitments. The release schedule is certainly suspect but SE's development practice even more so.

The FFACC demo won't hit Japan until Dec 08 so we should expect a March-ish Japanese release. A June English release is highly optimistic...a Sept/Oct release is likely and it will come out in the EU maybe within this decade (actually given it ends when we hit 2010 it might not even do that!!).

I think at this rate learning Japanese might actually be faster than waiting for the game to come out.

What bugs me most is the fact that we in the UK basically get shafted having to wait for the EU release (especially if you are more intent on the 360 version given the system is region locked) just because the continent wants it's translations....why don't we just get a repackaged NA version? I mean they don't even bother fixing the spelling after waiting for months for what is essentially the same game with an extra boss or two thrown in. It just seems bizarre that SE's practice hasn't become a globalised machine like many other Japanese publishers have.

well seeing as how they have to recode it from the ground up for 360 it might make it by the end of this hardware generation. I'd say spring 2011. This was the real reason m$ dropped nearly a billion on square. They'll be close to releasing their next xbox by the time this comes out..but it pushes it back 2 years for the ps3 in the states. Part of the agreement between square and m$ is that there will be no ps3 release until the 360 version hits..a parking lot of trucks loaded with cash can do alot of things.

I really dont see how its being delayed since during the localization of the ps3 version is when the 360 version will start being ported.

Who cares, if its going onto 360 then it won't meet expectations and is going to suck worse than E.T on the Atari. I'm serious.

The strength of his post suggest obvious flame-baiting. Don't respond to it and eventually he'll move onto something you can pin him down for under TOS.

uhm, what the hell are you talking about? It took 5 years in between the last 2 FF (FF XII : 2006, FF X : 2001), I guess that all these cutscenes and high quality graphics takes longer to develop then previously, also as you mentioned, SE has more spinoff and IPs then ever before so they can afford taking more time to develop their flagship. Considering that it might take less time to get the next FF then the previous one, it's not that bad.

And did those games not take a long time to make considering the overall project size?? I mean the project is big but it's hardly 4/5 years worth of dev time for a project that size.

I guess Final Fantasy X-2 and XI don't count? because they were both released in 2003... Anyways, I'm expecting one hell of a game, and I want them to take their time with it, so i'm not worried...The only thing I don't like is if they really push back the US PS3 release until the 360 version is done. I still don't believe they will, but i guess I'm being a bit optomistic. The only thing i saw was that it's being released simultaneously in the US and Europe....it never said that it's being released simultaneously with the PS3 version. And with the Gamespot article, I've read that they threw that line in there, and they didn't really announce that it will.

Oh well, here's hoping for the best.

Undeniably true though. FF13 was going to be another big sales spike for the ps3. And m$ would do anything to prevent that. It has nothing to do with them getting 13 on their console. It was simply to put another nail in the coffin of the ps3 in the states. The 360 has clearly become the JRPG system with squares exclusives for it coming up. So they've created the need for JRPG fans to get a 360 in the meantime because final fantasys is atleast 2 years away.

The promise of games like FF are the reason I decided on a PS3. I am sickened they have taken this long to get a FF out on the PS3 considering all the media hype and controversy surrounding what game console to get. I mean how long has the PS3 been out and the people at Sony didn't think to release a game that sucessful and brilliant when they delivered us the PS3? Rubbish! I hope the marketing team was shot and if I don't get my FF installment sometime within 08 or 09 the latest?? Heads will roll.....
