Before we start, I would like to avoid all of the "doesn't matter, this game sucks" type of replies. I like the game, and if you don't that's fine, but it's not the point of the thread.

Anywho, I looked up an FF guide just to check something, and I realized that at just over 4 hours, I am apparently half way through the game (the second part of Chapter 3). I know that there are some side quests to do, but seriously? This seems very, very short for a FF game. Am I missing something?

Yeah it's pretty short. Took me around 16 hours to finish, but surprisingly I felt the length was just about right. The game was fine, but towards the end I felt that the pacing was getting too slow and that it was getting rather dull and then the ending came soon after. I read somewhere that you can platinum the game in around 35 hours, that's around one third of what it took me to platinum the first haha.

I doubt they put as much effort into making this game then they would any other numbered FF title. A lot of resources from the first game where probably used.. Supposedly they had a lot of content already made that didn't make it into the first game which I'm guessing they probably used in FFXIII-2. The game feels more like an expansion to me.

I liked everything about the game ( length included) except the difficulty which was my only gripe ( outside of being linear ) with the first one. It's simply too easy even on normal. I would have loved a high tier difficulty that REQUIRED mastering the combat system instead of being able to mostly auto battle for the win.

I can't remember anymore, but I spent at least 30, if not 40 hours with the game. The story is the worst part of Final Fantasy XIII-2, easily, so if you're playing the game for that, you can't expect anything but disappointment anyway. :P I made an honest attempt at all the sidequests and had a good time with it, though once I beat the game, I didn't go back to do post-game content (and there is a VERY meaty post-game). So, I dunno, I felt absolutely like I got my money's worth, but again--mileage will vary.

it makes me feel better that the game has a meaty post-story offering... and I guess it was worth the money, considering I know I will finish the main quest at least and I only paid like 15 bucks for it

I completely agree. FF games work best when they have time to breath and allow you to immerse yourself in the world. I personally think this game series has to get back to its roots. Ditch the goddamn *** pop music and cheesy characters etc. and make a proper open world RPG.

Yes, it is really short. But it lasts longer if you collect all 160 fragments and try some DLCs. Personally, I think it's a step back from XIII, which as much more enjoyable.

I've had this happen before. When it does I'll take time away from games for a week or two and then come back. Usually I will do a marathon of a show on Netflix or catch up on a different hobby.

its kinda short, but going back to other levels you visited and then some, being non-linear along with the DLC keeps this game going for quite awhile

Yeah this is a different case, I have been going through this for about 6 months now, and have went up to 2 months without playing a game, I just cant sit down and play a game anymore.

That may be so but when the game covers itself with trophies to make it seem like its a long rpg then we have a problem. I'm playing FFXIII right now and initially I didn't like it but it's growing on me few hours into the game, it's not the quality of older titles (played them all) however it has the charms and it's solid experience so far.

Trophies introduction had made many developers lazy and simple too forgiving on game content in general. When I have to spend 4 hours killing 1000 enemies in online game as an example that doesn't make it long game - it's simply waste of time for majority of people. Thank god it's optional..

Games should have content that ismeaningful andnot supported by simple numbers X = Y to achieve something with hours of gameplay.

Take Deus Ex: HR for example, it's a fantastic game with long content.

I won't go too much into the discussion, my point remains that trophies should never ever be a judgement for the game quality.

I picked up Tales of Graces f over this, but I still do want Final Fantasy XIII-2 because I enjoyed the first game. I think if you don't care about getting the TRUE ending and just want to finish the game, then it's a pretty short campaign. I think it was Square's intention from the beginning of development to have DLC planned to extend the life of the game.

I am glad to learn it is so short. I want the game, but this new info will have me waiting until i can pick it up for $20 or less. Might even buy it used.
