hi everyone

well, i want to share something with you ppl, im a FF fan, loved every game. when FF13 was announced i was very excited, some thoughs like; omg graphics, new sotry, characters, summons, for me its was first day purchase. but then i left the hype to a side and think that i should read a few reviews and watch more gameplay videos. then i changed my mind because of phrases like; it's isn't a FF game, it's totally different, they changed everything, no free roam, backtracking or towns, cities, etc exploring and other stuff. because of that the image i had in my mind about FF13 changed and lost all interest on it.

time passed since it's release and i had some extra bucks, searched the web looking for a cheap game to try, fallout, dragon age, i wanted an rpg but didnt liked oblivion, got bored with it, i needed something like FF or a jrpg, when i found FF13 used for a good price, didn't think too much and bought it. finally i was going to see if the reviews and all those critics were true.

for my surprise they weren't, omg, the characters are great (hope sucks), the story hooked me up, the battle system, my great worry because they said it was similar to FF11, i was wrong, it isn't button smashing, its great because you have to think carefully which would be your next move, like the old FFs, but it's faster and with more action now. im just scratching the game, like 4 hours, but till now i love it, it's a great FF game, different to the others yes, but still have soul and if you are a fan, don't hestiate, ust buy it, you won't regret.

i agree lot of people hate on FFXIII but I loved the game and beat it all the way through. The game had some flaws just like every other game out there but everyone bashed on it way to much.

To each his own i guess. I hated it. 2nd worst story in the series (FFX-2 is the worst). Characters were all whiny, too linear, only getting to use one summon til switching leader was lame. I did like the pace of the battles however. Hope they keep that in the next installment change back to exploring, throw in some mini games and challenges, have a bit of love and some deaths, and go back to character having classes.

to me ff13 was one of the most disappointing games ever. i would hand that game to a developer and tell them "use this as a template for what not to do in everything except the graphics"

I really, really wanted to like that game (still secretly do the more and more I see people start enjoying it) but I can't. I just can't. I can't name even ONE redeeming quality about that game besides graphics that I liked. I hate the characters, story, battle system, dialogue, leveling system ,etc. I just can't enjoy it. I came back to that game four times to see if I would enjoy it but nothing. It's ironic because everyone complains about the linearity but THAT doesn't stop me from playing it. Everything else that's horrible about it does.

At least there's Versus XIII. That will help me wash the taste of XIII out of my mouth.

I also hated the game, really tried to like it but I just couldn't, I was a HUGE FF fan when I was younger so I thought the game was going to be great... but IMO it wasn't The only thing I liked of the game was the visuals of the character Lightning.

The game is good. The characters are not quite as annoying as I heard they were. Some parts in the game make some of them seem more annoying. The story takes a little too long to pick up. The graphics I was not as impressed with as most. They are high quality, but since the game is linear, there is a lot of cut and paste. So why the environments have a high quality to them, in a way, they don't because things are copied and pasted over and over again. A clear example of this is in that area with lightning and hope before the plant boss. The elevator and those corridors look exactly the same on each floor. Also the fingers of characters and legs are rather blocky. The arms too. The paradigm system is cool. The leader ending the fight sucks and controlling only one character's moves sucks.

I think because i played nearly every single Final Fantasy in the main series (except 11, 14, and 3) and im a die hard FF fan, i was expecting to get sucked into the story and characters, and an awesome script/story telling, but it just never happened. The gameplay could have passed, but thats just 1/3 of the reason i like a FF game, the other 2/3 is story and engaging with NPC's finding out lil tid bits of info about the world, but of course, none of that in 13, ihated that so much, that you really couldn't talk to anyone, or never get a chance to. I didn't want to believe the bad things my friend was telling meabout it, and of course i spent the $65 at mid night release. All in all it wasn't BAD, but it didn't live up to being a true Final Fantasy.

FFXIII is a weird game. I liked it for the first few hours. It showed a lot of promise. But then it stalled and became very monotonous and I began hating it with a passion. (I was bored with the automatic fights and hated the useless leveling and upgrading systems). My hatred for the game continued (I didn't give up on the game due to nostaliga) until I finished the storyline and defeated the final boss. Then, the game became interesting again. Finally battles required actual strategy and your leveling/upgrading choices began to matter. And finally, they started throwing in classic FF stuff for the fans, ike chocobos, cactuars, and tonberrys.

Right now, I'm back to liking the game. I'm still playing the game becauseI haven't killed one of the superbig creatures yet, and I won't feel like I've experienced the whole game until I at least do that. I don't regret buying the game because I'm a big FF fan and I eventually did get some fun out of the game. But I definitely wouldn't recommend this game to anyone else because I don't think you should have to sink 40 hours into a game before it becomes fun. And even at its best, it is at most an above average game. But its worst parts are really, really bad.

well it's cool to read other opinions

i loved things like the lvling system, its similar to FF10, which i think is one of the best FF, cried with it, enough said.

the graphics aren't top notch but i like more a good story and gameplay than graphics.

everyone have its thoughts about it, some loved it, some hated it. i think its a very good game, its a FF game very deep within, with a lot of new stuff to try on a FF game. just play like it was your first FF game, dont think about oh FF7 its better or nah i like more the battle system from FF9, no, play like it was your first FF game or rpg, at least try, its a great game.

I thought it was a good game in terms of story, battle system, music (although it was the same think remixed throughout), graphics etc. One think I didn't like was the lack of sidequests and not being able to fully explore the beautifully crafted areas you were in. I don't think this game deserves the hate it got because its a great game, it just lacks freedom common in past Final Fantasy games.

i also tried reading the built in encyclopedias since the game didn't feel like telling anything too relevent in the umpteen hours of cut scenes.

I really enjoyed it, too. I even spent the 100+ hours it takes to platinum it. I've been playing FF games since the SNES days, so I was raging hard when I heard about all the changes they made to the game. I even cancelled my preorder and all that. Eventually I decided to put all my expectations aside and try to enjoy the game for what it is. I was immediately impressed with the graphics, the combat was fun from the start and just became pure awesomeness towards the end, the characters were each great in their own way (even Hope to an extent), and the story was good even though it was one of the worst in the series. The ending was incredible. It may not be an amazing FF game, but its still an amazing game. And I enjoyed every minute of it.

I got a good deal on it, bought it new for $20 (internet :D), and I'd have to say it was worth every penny. I've only done one playthrough on it so far--took me ~45 hours to beat it--and I have to say it was pretty linear but the battle system made up for it. Idk why everyone complains about "only controlling one character", you control all of them. Just with macro commands instead of microing them.

Personally, I found it was a bore the first half of the game, as everything just seemed to have a cycle. But I kept with it hoping some change will come and it somewhat did when you reach gran pulse. But the best part of the game was doing all the missions which was pretty addicitve, and exploring more content. To me the game came alive post game.

What people mean when they say only controlling one character, is that I can only in put moves for one person. True I can change paradigms around which changes the moves for all characters but I can't decide when another character uses X move at a precise time. I want to be able to choose the exact moves everyone will do. Or in your words, yes I want to micromanage the whole fight. In some ways the fights feel like I am hardly playing at all.

It's not the best game ever, but it feels like a great experiment if nothing else. I hope with XIII-2 Squenix learns from this game and takes the good parts (Leveling/Paradigm systems, Combat, graphics, story) and trims some of the bad parts (Linearity, Auto-Battle button making the whole game too easy, Vanille) and make a truely impressive game.

I didn't like it, just got through it because everyone said it gets better to the end, it was horrible and IMO one of the worst JRPGs I played on the PS3. I have no intention to go back to it just to run around in a boring bland empty grass land where you can do nothing else but "fight" (more like tell your party how they should fight) specific monsters to win some quests. Good thing Resonance of Fate helped me over one of the biggest JRPG disappointments in my life -.-'

i agree completely. Maybe if i was still a high school teen or something I'd like it. The words "grow the f**k up" ran through my head millions of time. fight, whine, complain, go foward a narrow hallway, fight, whine, complain go foward a narrow hallway, repeat cycle--thats what that game was. Tell you the truth guys, if i would've bought the game for a cheap price like the op or some folks here, i would have a better opinion of the game but 60 bucks the first day for this immature whiny game? what a joke. I remember hearing from many forums that FFXIII sucked and was way too linear when it was released in japan and i was like who cares i'm a ff fan and all this hate is just from haters then......most dissapointing game purchase of 2010. the game wasn't bad it was just dissapointing.

thread title is misleading..

you make it sound like you played it and thought it sucked but revisited it this year and changed your mind.

this isn't the case... what happened is that you believed what other people said instead of using your own head and now you regret it.

Wow I don't know how I could even understand what you were saying because your spelling and sentence structure is horrible. I agree though but I have had the game since it came out and always thought it was an awesome game. The only FF game I don't like is FFXII. FFX was ok and FFIX i'm gonna give another chance. When I was a kid (I was 13 when this game came out) I didn't have much interest in FFIX but my tastes have changed now that I'm 24. I never played the MMOs and I have no interest in ever playing them.

I think FFXIII was a victim of its own hype.

I enjoyed it, too. Though if you've only played it for 4 hours I think it is too soon for you to positively say that you love it.

Ehh I bought it on release...got fed up with it about 5 hours in, sat on my shelf. I recently put it back in and im about 15-20 hours in and I still cant stand it. Its got GREAT presentation, great graphics, good sounds...but everything else in the gameplay dept fell short. The story is VERY corny, and the voice acting is awful (hello Vanille and Hope!). Theres just so much corridor running + cutscene I can do until I want to literally hang myself. I am on chapter 11 and I think thats it...I think its time to trade her in.

It has a lot going for it, but it's also very linear and there isn't a lot of interesting things to do in the endgame. Even the strongest enemies in the endgame are pretty much just copies of normal enemies with different skins and colors.Like how Long Guis are the strongest enemies, but they're just blue Adamantoises. The best part ofFinal Fantasy for me has always been the crazy endgame bosses. Final Fantasy XII did a great job with this. Ithad Yiazmat, Omega Mk.XII, Gligamesh, Zodiark and other unique boss enemies that you could fight on the side after the main story was done. This was the one major disappointment in Final Fantasy XIII that I could not forgive. Even Atacus and Vercingetorix are just variations of normal Cie'th.

For me personally, it was pretty bad. I enjoyed previous series, especially FF 6, 7, 8 and 10. After that, I could not get into Final Fantasy series.

I believe FF13 was made for different audience, I found nothing to enjoy, other then visual aspect. That's too bad, I use to enjoy JRPG's however in last few years my RPG collection pretty much consist of Western genre.

This year alone: Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Witcher 2 and especially Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are all going to be my first day purchase.

That's five AAA RPG titles and none are JRPG's. I hope Japanese developers start producing some quality there were known for, otherwise the genre is not going to survive on mediocre titles.

I found the game is be really awful, still surprised that I successfully dragged myself to finish it

Except the graphic + sazh/lightning there was NOTHING I liked about the game

Hated combat, hated crystarium, hated character, hated the story and while I didn't hate the music not a single tune stuck in my head, not even for a second

but if you liked, then yay for you^^

this isn't the case... what happened is that you believed what other people said instead of using your own head and now you regret it.

yep thats right, sorry for the title. but i learned that i need to try a game first to have a full impression about it. it was that i wanted to wait till it was cheaper

hi everyone

well, i want to share something with you ppl, im a FF fan, loved every game. when FF13 was announced i was very excited, some thoughs like; omg graphics, new sotry, characters, summons, for me its was first day purchase. but then i left the hype to a side and think that i should read a few reviews and watch more gameplay videos. then i changed my mind because of phrases like; it's isn't a FF game, it's totally different, they changed everything, no free roam, backtracking or towns, cities, etc exploring and other stuff. because of that the image i had in my mind about FF13 changed and lost all interest on it.

time passed since it's release and i had some extra bucks, searched the web looking for a cheap game to try, fallout, dragon age, i wanted an rpg but didnt liked oblivion, got bored with it, i needed something like FF or a jrpg, when i found FF13 used for a good price, didn't think too much and bought it. finally i was going to see if the reviews and all those critics were true.

for my surprise they weren't, omg, the characters are great (hope sucks), the story hooked me up, the battle system, my great worry because they said it was similar to FF11, i was wrong, it isn't button smashing, its great because you have to think carefully which would be your next move, like the old FFs, but it's faster and with more action now. im just scratching the game, like 4 hours, but till now i love it, it's a great FF game, different to the others yes, but still have soul and if you are a fan, don't hestiate, ust buy it, you won't regret.

I never played the MMOs and I have no interest in ever playing them.

sorry, i need to practice more my english

the problem that had most of the ppl was thet they hyped too much thinking it was going to be like 7 or 9 or 10. so they had a preconceived image of the game. almost all say the same, "it wasnt a bad game, just a big dissappoinment"

i love some of the snes games, 7,9 and liked a lot 10, hated so much 12. ff13 is like a mix of 10 and 12 with a lot of new things.

i liked the game, liked the story and the gameplay hooked me up, thats enough for me.

I like the game as well. My problems with it are that are no hidden secrets. If your main character dies, the fight is over. You only have full control over one character. My other problem is that the ares of the game look like places from 10 and 12. Square borrowed a lot from the PS2 games. The pardigm system is kind of like the system in 10-2. Within a given area, it feels like you are walking down the same corridor over and over. There is no variety in the areas you run around in. The only variety that I have seen so far is in Snow's flashback when confronting Sera and in Chapter 8 when Sahz and Vanile visit that fair amusement place.

yeah he game have a lot of flaws, but square-enix have beenn trying new stuff on every released FF game, remember 12? (i hated, i just cant worry about the main character, they felt empty) laso the leveling system on 10 was different (loved that game, cried with the ending). FF13 have good ideas and others failed, but overall, its a good game.
