I just started playing FFXIII, i read a few reviews about it and it seemed alot of people were disapointed in this game..

i have only just started but i am really enjoying it, the graphics are amazing, i like the characters and the new gameplay system,

the only thing i have found a bit different is...i have yet to come across a town (rest, buy/sell stuff, townfolk!)

i understand when you save you can buy/sell and upgrade weapons..but are there actually any towns at all? also is the whole game

futuristic? are there big grasslands etc..

anyway just iso your opinions on this game, i am really enjoying it atm, please dont post any SPOILERS!

Am with you on the game is great, but when u go back to the best FF games "FFVII, FFVIII, FIV, FIX" it kinda feels......different, not in bad to way "to some poeple", but i guess some of the hardcore gamers don't like change.

And sorry, the answer is "no" there is no towns in FF13 since everybody HATES you.

And in Ch.11 u get to explore in the open world.

IMO FF13 is just *average*, I had more fun with JRPGs like Resonance of Fate, Disgaea 3, Valkyrie Chronicles or Trinity Universe. I think they had some horrible things in this game, alone the *main chara dies = game over* destroys the battle system totally, especially with enemies that can spell instant death spells and you need luck to survive oO I hate it when luck is a major aspect to win a battle.

OP, I'm glad you are enjoying the game, by far I believe its one of the best games this year and one of the most underrated games by the so called hardcore gamers with failed excuses. I've played a lot of FF games and I tell you, FFXIII is just another great game in the franchise. SE put in some change into the usual FF, but it is still good, the fighting system is well done and will be challenging in the later chapters. Its pretty time consuming to get the platinum trophy, but not too hard.

ff13 was a dissapointment for me, its just an ok kinda game, square enix tried to westernize it, and the result was bad, boring environment, boring leveling system, complicated story, boring weapons

You have yet to come across a town simply because there are no towns. The game is one big straight line until you reach chapter 11 where you'll find one big open grass field to do hunting missions and stuff.

With the story, it wouldn't make any sense to have towns because everyone in the world hates you. If there were towns, no one would sell you anything. I absolutely love the game, it's definitely one of my favorite FF's

Well, FF13 isn't bad game, but it isn't good enough either to even make a stand against the greater titles in the series such as Final Fantasy 7. And yeah, no towns really sucks.. but what should they do? Spoiler: They are Lacies.

Yeah because everyone was terrorfied running for their lives when Sazh and Vanille(both l'cie) where having a nice stroll in gold saucer land. *obvious /sarcasm off*. The only way to tell that a l'cie is a l'cie in the first place is to be able to see the tattoo, which the majority of the characters have hidden. It's just a really poor mans excuse to take RPG features out of a game.

for the majority of the game your in futuristic environments (and that is a VERY good thing when the CGI kicks in :) ) and no there isnt any towns. I personally did like it but it was kind of easy and i wish the battle system was more turn based like FFX or completely overhauled to something action orientated like star ocean but nevertheless the game and combat system was great. I wish u were able to see the CGI in like a menu or something..u have to play the whole game from start if u wanna see em...

FF13 was good, it just wasn't epic by any means. I enjoyed it, but I doubt I ever have the urge to play it again.

I seem to recall there being a constant state of military occupation in the cities they do show...... you know, where they check everyone and whatnot. That wasn't the case in Nautilus (until later obviously). We can argue about this all day but really, you and I both know that you've formed your opinion so it's pointless. Basically though, I felt that the game was not only a great FF game, but one of the best. Peace out

As much as I loved the game, what crossel said is true. You do technically go to towns, the only thing is it serves no real purpose than to continue fights. However I also believe a lot of content was cut from the final product that is FFXIII. All in all, it just seems like an unfinished game to me. Still, had great fun with the battle system.

i really enjoyed FFXIII sure they made changes to the series and sure it wasnt the best FF ever made but it was different and still fun to play. SE wanted to try something new and while it may not of been what everyone expected or wanted it was still a whole lot of fun and an overall good game.

I loved XII and spend a little under 100 hours with it. I got XIII and was initially very impressed with the graphics. But after 15 hours of the mindless monotony that passed as that thing's "gameplay" I just couldn't take any more. Happy I got twenty bucks for trading it in.

I enjoyed FF13. The story is much more fast paced than most other FFs. The new battle system is the biggest upgrade. Its also brought in new fans to the series because its not complicated anda walkthrough is no longer necessary. Sure there are no towns but the story and battle system more than make up for it. Im currently trying to get the platinum trophy. I only have to get the treasure hunter trophy to get the platinum now. Im having trouble right now because gil and transformational componets are hard to get in this game.

But see, I could easily keep your statement, just swap XII and XIII. Well, maybe it was closer to 20 hours in XII when I got bored (whenever it was Vaan met Basch). And perhaps I wouldn't go as far as say I loved XIII, but I did like it. And I spent just over 100 hours on XIII. As an FF gamer though, let alone a gamer in general, I know the 2 are very different games, and that there will be a group of people who definitely love XII, as much as there will be those who love XIII.

Both are still very playable games in their own right. I see no need for arrogance in proclaiming either as unplayable at all. I could very well trash on any FPS game, since I tend to dislike the general gameplay in FPSs, but that would just be naive of me, thinking my own gaming preference was the 'only' gaming way.

I gave my honest opinion of the game. That's no more "arrogant" than if I said that Dead Space had a wonderfully tense atmosphere. I mean, maybe other people don't feel that way, so who am I to make such an arrogant statement? I also don't see where I stated that everyone had to agree with me.

Wait...

you're promoting "a people have their own preferences" belief by using yourself as an example but at the same time criticizing Jackc8 for posting his opinion, which, by its very nature, is based on preference? Let alone the fact that Jackc8 didn't even use the kind of extreme language that you did, nor stated anything about what people should do (i.e. your "my own gaming preference was the 'only' gaming way" comment).

and, unless you didn't know, YOU CAN "trash" on any game you want (preferably in a constructive manner) on a public forum, which just happens to be a medium for discussion and opinion...

I truly don't want to offend you, but I believe you've just lost your right to the use of the terms "naive" and "arrogant"... indefinitely.

Well the social links are more of a sidequest I guess you could say. Entirely optional but each one has a pretty good story behind it. Its meant to simulate the high school experience. The main story is REALLY good though and its got some great characters.

the thing i really couldnt stand was reading the datalog junk. i tried and after 10 minutes i thought "shouldn't ALL of this be in the cutecenes instead of the drivel that was actually in cutscene?" i beat the game the other week and still don't have much of a clue what happened.

hey yeah its a great game. i just beat it recently and it was pretty awesome. the reason a lot of ppl hate it is cuz there old ff fans. they expect every ff to be like ff7, and if its not then they'll go out of their way to complain as much as they can lol. like cmon, u guys honestly think there gonna make a same kinda game just cuz the old fans keep pmsing over it? obviously they gotta try new things, different systems to attract new audiences and all that. the funny thing is, most of them actually went through and finished the game, or went very far. lol they say its a crappy game and all that and yet they play the whole thing through, i mean its not like its a short game. but yeah its a great game, i wouldnt say its my favourite ff but still very good, great story and characters, okay gameplay, amazing graphics. i actually enjoyed ff12's gameplay the most out of all the ones ive played (ff10 -ff13). ff10 remains to be my favourite game of all time though. im just kinda dissapointed cuz there isnt really many good rpgs on ps3 to play now.

Rakuho

Well, lets see. I was trying to promote a 'people have their own positive preferences' belief. You know, a 'one man's trash is another man's treasure' or 'the cup is half-full rather than half-empty' mentality. Not a simple people have preferences notion, which is why I was criticising the negativity of his statement. That may sound preachy, but I guess I've seen much better worded criticism that it annoys me when people don't even try.

And yes, I know that anyone can say/trash whatever they want in forums, and that it doesn't have to be articulate or backed-up, but surely you've seen how those 'discussions' tend to turn out, mainly haters vs blind-fanboyism. You know, like what goes on in system wars(well, I assume), only to a smaller degree. Simply trashing games just seems to breed the 'haters gonna hate' mentality. Then again I guess I have to admit I was probably over critical, the topic was to simply give opinions, not really start a meaningful discussion.

I guess it goes back to the days when XII got so much hate. And I didn't like the game either, but I could still stand-up for those who did like the game. I had my criticisms yes, but that wouldn't stop me from recommending it to people who I knew would like the gameplay. Both games easily got good scores, yet still so much hate is/was directed at them, usually to the point it denies others can actually enjoy playing.

I don't really want to touch on the 'naive' and 'arrogant' term thing, since it's pointless. But I will concede that perhaps my threshold for arrogance is low, which is why to me it was. But I will concede that perhaps that's just me.

As for the TC, sorry for going off-topic. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game mate.

after hating FF 10 I really enjoyed FF13 but it is very linear. It was enjoyable but not as good as the older games.

FFXIII Good game, bad final fantasy! Will I blindly buy another? Maybe not, but I haven't given up hope on Square-Enix just yet! If versus also sucks then I'm done with them forever!!

[QUOTE="MethodManFTW"][QUOTE="Texas2089"][QUOTE="MethodManFTW"] you send me a ps2 and i will play it :P

I want a full live stream on JustinTV while you play the entire game and I want to hear you say you were wrong and that there is still hope for JRPGs :P

I could easily stream it, but i dunno about it changing my opinion of the genre, from you and ry talking about it sounds like a friend-sim. :P
