I think 8 is better. What I like about 8 is that you can customize its difficulty by leveling a lot. Fighting Diablo very early in the game at level is pretty challenging, it's very fun. FF8's music is awesome as well. The only thing I hated was the weapon system.
FF7 is a great game all around. No down points IMO, except that it was a little too easy. But I don't find anything that really stand out of the RPG genre.Â
You can get both games for 20$, even less if they are used. I would suggest to get both and make your own idea. :PÂ
Â
But if you want a true RPG masterpiece, try out Xenogears. It's as old as FF7, so bad graphics shouldn't scare you too much.Â
ff7 is more famous so if you play it you'll get an idea of what people are talking about.
Though it's always rough playing a classic, because you can never be sure that it's aged well.Â
well after playing ff7 i said to myself that this is the best game i ever played, 10 years later it's still the greatest game experience i ever had. You should play both though.Deviltrigger

you cant be serious :(
i had that thought too...
VII by far. but if you get a chance get 8 too. It is the second best. 6 is overrated imo. It is just a way for all the "against the crowd" types to get their jollies.longhorn7
Â
against the crowd? i didnt know it was against the crowd to like one game over the other. especially since most people who played 6 would prefer it over 7 in a heartbeat. 7 was a considerable technological breakthrough no doubt. but 6's story and character development was inspiring. if 6 could get a real update, not just a fresh coat of paint, that would be a treat for hardcore FF fans.
they need to remake 6. put 7 and 8 combined to shame :)

I agree. FF6 > all
If you've never played a Final Fantasy, you should definitely check FF7 out first. I've played through FF7 about a half-dozen times, and I still love it. Both are great games, but I'm not sure how well they've aged if you don't have any nostalgic memories of them (like I obviously do).

I've played both several times, and 6 has a better story in the first half but falls apart completely in the second half. FF7 has a cool story all the way to the end. As far as gameplay goes, they're both excellent games.Â

man and I thought I was the only one that thought that about the story from FF6...

haha sadly i think he is...poor guySame goes for me, ff10 was my favorite
I am suprised there has not been any murders over this yet lol it's one of the hardest questions to ask. it does matter what one you play first i myself went out and got ff8 after seeing a advert on tv and played it for god knows how many hours and really enjoyed it the junction system took some time to get use too but its becomes easierwhen you know how.
i did enjoy seven alot too but after playing 8 it takes a huge step in grahpics department and can make you cringe and the sound will drive you mad. There are some tough bosses in both games but i would say seven's ruby weapon is the most annoying if you dont know how to take it on.
the mini games in both are fun i do like ff8 more for the card game
so buyall thegames and IF you had to avoid buying one i wouldnt get ff9 just my least favioute (buying ff12 friday)
7 is the best all round game imho. amazing story, which is still being continued b/c the ancients are a pretty broad topic and so is shinra's little evil experiments, so its still a world with rich stories that SE intends to make use of...who knows maybe the next ff7 sequel will be on PS3 =P (CloudvsSephirothvsGenesis HOLY SH*****).
buut yeah ff7 has a AAA story, turned based battle but its not to bad. Amazing Magic and Limit Break system. And well best all round game a person could possibly ask for, btw after u beat 7 u can get Advent Children(wait for Blu-Ray collectors)+Dirge of Cerberus(OK story...introduces whole genesis thing which is important in future), and PSP prequel....sooo yeah itll keep u busy

Get both. I just recently brough final fantasy 7 & 8. With the walkthroughs (brading names for number 7, piggy back for number 8m piggy back walkthrough i found better) for £30 which isn't expensive at all XD. I brought from ebay but i know they sell the games around £10each in second hand shops =)
The thing is with final fantasy though is that each game has a different plot characters and things that just blow you away. Its is very hard to choose the better game out of the series. Each one is highly unique with epic soundtracks, graphics and unique story lines with unguessable endings for most.
I'm getting the impression that the first game people play is usually their favourite, aka im now playing final fantasy 7 for the first time. Its very good but the graphcs and the fact you have to hold the x button to run is annoying and im still preferring my first played game of FF8. FFX was spectacular also. It is so hard to decide i think which game is better then the other, though for me FF8 will probally be first since it was my first experience.
Then again maybe X is my fave, i havn't completed 7 yet and thats so far pretty good...Uh..maybe i won't decide which is best..too hard lmao.
So, try and get both if you can :). Everyones opinions are so different and choosing one game over the other i think is a hard choice.
For those 'dissing X'. X would be the first on ps2 so a lot would have played that without playing any previous titles. It also had a pretty amazing sound track so although most are like 'wtf how can you say that, lala was obviously the best', it would be their first game and the first one to shock them as ff8 was for me :).

LOL you wish. FF7 is out of productions and costs alot, check ebay, they're selling for hundreds.

you can buy final fantasy 7+8 for £19.99 each or you can do what i did and got ff8 again (played last one to death lol) for £10 on ebay
forgot to put the shop is gamestation also they still sell the guide books too

i brought ff7 and walkthrough guide for £10, ebay ftw
I think that FFX was the best one of all. That's the game that made me truely love rpg's so I love it.
Just be warned I "think" that ffviii hasn't been added to the ps3 pal game list yet, just double check it in case you're a pal-dude and don't own a ps1/ps2 anymore:)
ffix is still king imo, followed by ffxii and ffvi. Just my 2 øre.;)
(ffvii, ffviii and ffx are still above great games, though)

6 is awesome. 7 is still my all-time favourite, and 8 isn't bad. The only bad FF I have tried is FFX-2, tbh
r u high?! FFX-2 WAS HOT!!!

FFX is much better than seven, 7 is overrated and dated, but 7 was groundbreaking. So was 10 though. Most people wouldn't hold 7 in such high regard if Aries didn't die.
Here are the things that made Final Fantasy VII so groundbreaking.
1. The whole world is in 3-D for the first time.
2. One of the most memorable villians of all-time: Sephiroth.
3. A wonderfully diverse, set of main characters.
4. The Murder
5. CGI cutscenes were so ahead of their time. They helped narrate an unforgetable story.
