no in-depth RPG for the PSP has sucked me in yet. so far the closest would have to be Crisis Core O_o. I wish they make something like Vagrant Story 2 PSP... :) looking forward to Yggdra Union and Valhalla Knights 2. i hope these 2 new games deliver...
Nothing is sure about it's release date. But I hope they take their time as they see fit. I'd rather wait for 4 years and then get a game that is perfect in every imagineable way.

Try Brave Story. Really a great RPG. Yggdra Union is out already so you can give that a try now, and its gotten some good reviews.
