Hi there - my favourite all time game was Final Fantasy X, and I would be overjoyed if they were to make a PS3 edition of it. With the God of War collection, and rumours for Ico and Shadow of the Collosus being given a similar treatment, does anyone thing that Sony/Square Enix will ever make a PS3 collection of some of the most successful Final Fantasies?

I am aware that Sony doesn't own the final fantasy franchise like it does GOW, and that the franchise is not even totally exclusive.

Dunno but a Kingdom Hearts collection seems more likely.

Where at once I thought that a KH collection was likely, I'm beginning to doubt it more and more. I guess we'll know once KH 3 comes. As for FF collections? Seems highly unlikely. SE seems to have enough trouble getting normal FF's out without delay, I'm sure another project would just stall things further.

I think its likely to happen, just not as the collection in one. no doubt they will be released seperatly if they are at all.

Meh. FFX is a classic. I wouldn't really want to see a remake of it. I'd still buy it though if it came out :P

If Wada can see a profit in it I'm sure it will happen...especially considering how many times their older stuff has been released.

I would like to see it, but I doubt it would ever happen.

The closest thing we can hope for is probably the tech demo for VII, but I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe other companies would follow suit, for instance I would like to see EA release updated versions of the two System shock games for consoles.

I think Square Enix tried that on PS1 (when they were known as Squaresoft) when they released FF Anthology (FF 5 + 6) and Chronicles (FF 4 + Chrono Trigger), I think there was an "Origins" (FF 1 + 2) in there too but I don't exactly remember right now. I'm not too sure how well they sold either aside from FF Anthology, which i'm pretty sure there was a "Greatest Hits" collection. Given this, I doubt there will be a collection released by Square Enix but PSN may release FFX as a "PS2 Classic" as they did for FF 7, 8 and 9 as "PSOne Classics"if Sony starts releasing PS2 games on PSN

Not as the collection it should be released as - SquareEnix is too money-grubbing for that, and they know their fans will eat anything they squeeze out. They'll continute to release the lower Final Fantasies as single-game handheld games, both for full price on official handhelds and slight discounts on mobiles devices (like the iPhone, which I belive has FF1 and FF2 now). They may do another PS1 style collection release of the SNES era games - that one would be nice on a single DVD, although the way digital distribution is going those might just end up as directly-ported PS1 Classics on PSN and remain two separate games. The only ones I can see getting a God of War style treatment are FFX and FFX-2 (maybe FFXII while they're at it). That I would buy - cleaned up graphics and proper widescreen (on FFX and FFX-2) would help the look of those games a lot.

I loved it when they re-released those epic games. The only problem was the loading times were ridiculously slow, especially for the ones where you have to switch your equioment around a lot.

Yeah, the load times really killed those collections - the PS1 simply didn't have enough memory to store the entire game data in there (which is only about 4MB for FFVI), so it had to continually load from the disc. And whoever coded that obviously didn't bother to optimize anything.

I would love to see it. My PS2 isn't in the best of shape anymore and i don't want to buy another one. But I would definitely buy a FF collection of PS2 games for just FFX alone.

Well, we're getting Sly Cooper. Sucker Punch isn't doing the work though, one of Sony's internal studios is. So theoretically we could get any PS2 exclusives in a collection as long as the original developer is willing to let another studio give it a minor facelift.

Anthology and Chronicles were pretty good, Origins got somewhat shafted when shortly after it was released, the same thing was released as "Dawn of Souls" for GBA

A Final Fantasy X with better graphics, trophies and little extras? Heck, I would pay even more money to play that than FF XIII

Honestly? No. Final Fantasy is too big of a game to refurbish in glorious 720p. If anything, Square Enix would do a remake of VII if at all. Kingdom Hearts seems more likely as it's more confined and linear.

I wouldn't say that. According to someone at Sony, Square-Enix is probably working on a Final Fantasy collection as we speak.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=273641

Doesn't surprise me. Ubisoft is working on a Prince of Persia collection and Midway Games is working on a Mortal Kombat collection both with 720p graphics for the PS3. Why wouldn't Square-Enix jump on board? They're just updating the graphics and adding trophies, not completely overhauling the physics or anything. It should only take a few months to complete.

Also, a Final Fantasy collection is MUCH more likely now than a Final Fantasy VII remake (there's a big difference between updating the graphics with a fresh coat of paint and completely remaking a PS1 game).

A Kingdom Hearts collection will happen eventually too (I think that will be how Nomura celebrates the 10-year anniversary in 2012).
