Hey guys,  I have a problem, What should i play fist, FF8 or FF9? I heard that people think 9 is a downgrade from 8, so maby i should play it first so i wont be disapointed going to it. But i was thinking it would be more logical to do ff8 first.

I loved them both. 9 is a little more old school with the characters and animation and such. 8 is a little better in story IMO though. Tough decision. I would play 8 first then 9 but it's very close for me.

Are you kidding, FF9 is 100 times better than FF8. FF8 was really one big waste of time playing. FF9 is an awesome game.

Do what ever you want to do, but FF9 is my favorite FF, while 8 is one of my least faves. And I'm a diehard FF fan.

It's not really that important as there is no correlation in the final fantasy series until x-2. I kinda disliked 8 because of the auto-leveling monsters and the storyline was very invasive into the actual game, square was a little too over-eager about their new cg abilities and graphics at the time with 8. I don't realy think the storyline is better in either, they both have a pretty good one. For realistic look, 8 was the first to have properly proportioned characters, and is a more serious play with not too much humour. 9 kind of hearkens back to the ff6 days. lots of humour kiddy graphics, non-proportioned characters. My personal favourite was 9, I'm not really sure but it seems like any of the fans that started with ff1 really disliked 8, but any fan that started at ff7 loved 8 and disliked 9.

yea but i need a good story too tho, Like when playing Lengend of dragoon i was interested in what happened to the characters and (spoilers to that game) when Lavits bit the dust i was like "omfg"

i like that kind of stuff and i dont think FF9 will give me that

but then again that auto leveling doesnt apeal so much to me, and i think its to easy to abuse the GFS..

And i have to admit i only played ff9 for about 2 hours and i got a few good laughs from the Cgs... Like when the princess drops from the tower with the streamer and that rusty guy grabs one and flys over..... Haha

Personally I though FF9 had one of the best stories ever in a video game. FF8's story was extremly weak.

haha, I remember that scene, but at this point I think you have enough information to make your own decision :)

i'm personally replaying ff6 on my dslite right now as well as rogue galaxy on my ps3...I'd play more ffxii if it didn't mean another 75 hours of my life just for a replay

honestly flame all you are doing is ripping on ff8 without any good reasons, how do you expect anybody to take you seriously.

Very impossible, the monsters level up with you basically in FF8.They will always be the same level as you no matter what.

They're both awesome games, but I'd have to say FF9, it was the first one I played back when I was a wee lad and as the first game I got for my ps1 it sorta has a special place on my shelf.  But make sure you play both!

You're out of your mind. FF8 was a great game, but 7 was beyond great. Since both games have nothing to due with each other you can play either or, but if you want to go in order start with 8. FF9 has a great story as well and kind of has a Goku & Raditz storyline. Try both of them and I'm pretty sure you will enjoy both. FF8's Opening is the best and most epic by far, but FF9's (SPOILER) when Zidane went to go save Kuja was awesome.

The monster lvl up with you in FF VIII ? And this is bad ? When you reach the lvl cap you will be godlike in FF VIII, that is if you abuse the aura spell and possess Lionheart. Only the Omega Weapon needs special preperations to beat. FF IX is really good too. Overall is a better game but VIII was the first game of the series i completed so it's special for me. However IX has a major drawback and that is the character artwork . . . PSX is not Super Nintendo, when you can have realistic characters why would you make them big headed ? In spite of that the story is very good and the gameplay is really enjoyable. I still remember the chocobo mini game and Quina's frog eating skills :P

It doesn't matter really, I prefer 9 but it's apples and oranges. You've played 7 right?

others worth checking out are 6 and 3 (Japan)

only important ones to play in order are: play tactics before 12, play 10 before 10x2 (if you play the piece of crap at all)

Play them in sequence. The developers learned from one game to the next what to improve on and did so.

Play FF7, 8 then 9. The FFs are better played in their order because they lead up better. Especially having FF7 up to FF8 was a great surprise update on the visuals.

They are both really good in my opinion, each focusing on different story style.  You should play in chronological order.

I'd go 8. It was my first venture into the series, so I always have a soft spot for it.

From what i remember reading at some point, the "FINAL" fantasy was the first one. squaresoft was tanking and they really wanted to do this super cool idea they had. FF1, they had no clue it was gonna be a smash hit and thought it would be their last game ever, hence the name, I also believe nintendo kept their heads above water so they could finish it.

They're both amazing games. Personally I liked FF9 better, the system worked better for me than 8.  Whichever one you pick to play first, I guarantee you'll have a blast.

Play Final Fantasy IX first.  That way, when you play Final Fantasy VIII, you won't be let down, which you would be the other way around. :P

What's the best way to put this...

Playing Final Fantasy VIII is kinda like winning the lottery.  For the third time in a row.  The following release of Final Fantasy IX was like someone kicked you in the groin, and robbed you blind while you were lying on the ground crying about how horribly awful the ordeal was.

I think that's about right.

Seriously though, play IX first.  Playing VIII will raise your expectations too high. :P

Forget all that, find an SNES emulator and play FFIV. :P To be honest though, I'll probably tell you(even though you've seen AC and read about the game) to go through FF7, reading about it and then experiencing it yourself are two different things(that sounded retarded). I remember me and a buddy of mine back in high school, we couldn't wait til FF8 came out and we played that game all day and night. I just recently went through it again, it's still pretty good. FF9 was the weird one to me, I don't really know why. I've never finished the game, like it, played it a lot, but it didn't hit me as much as the previous two.

Yeah, but getting it in the first disk consumes lots of time and you waste levels for the X stat+ when leveling up.

In the final part of FF VIII you can get all the GF that you missed. And a good tip is: Use draw against every enemy you encounter, you can get good spells early in the game like Triple, Aura, etc
