Is anyone else very stoked about this game? Apparently, the "darkest" FF game yet, and so I read also the most violent and bloody..
Anyhow, I still haven't found a release date yet, does anyone have an idea?

The dark. mature theme gave me hype for this game.
The fact that its being developed in the gameplay vein of KH nearly took all that hype away.
I can't really say anything until I see some gameplay of this. I saw gameplay graphics and they look amazing, but no combat system yet. So far it just looks more like a movie than a game. Well, I await a gameplay video of some sorts for now..
Yeah, I'm hyped too because Nomura already confirmed that the game will have towns, NPC's and everything what FFXIII lacked. Even a huge world map like the old FF games (prior X). I think this just confirms that FFXIII was gimped...

That is great news! Where did you hear this? The battle system isn't really what turns me away from FF XIII, but rather no towns! I loved towns and world maps lol. I realize FF:X was pretty linear (I loved the game) but it had towns and a good feel to it.

For real?
I actually find the gameplay aspect intriguing. I've always thought Final Fantasy could do well with a real time combat system, and now that it's here, I'm really stoked for the game.

Kh was a button masher with leveling....
If you know how to press X you pretty much beat the game.
If Square Enix wants to keep my respect and money they better not taint the future of the series with KHs shallow gameplay.

KH gameplay is going to kill it.. ugh I actually disagree with this. While I absolutely HATE KH and all it's campy Disney crap, the style of fighting was well designed. And my understanding is it's an action RPG. If that's the case, i want to see what they can do with a grown up version of KH's gameplay.[QUOTE="juden41"]

I'll await more info before I determine my feelings on Versus.

If there's a menu and different catorgories for different spells and items, in game, then it really doesn't qualify as a 'button masher'.Hadn't heard that. Yup that kills the hype for me too.The dark. mature theme gave me hype for this game.

[QUOTE="Shirokishi_"]Hadn't heard that. Yup that kills the hype for me too. I think you're reading too much into that. KH was a game targeted towards youngsters. If there is a so called dark mature theme with it, don' t you think they would design a battle system that would match it? I see it as they're making a more mature version of the KH system, or at least that's what I'm hoping. The dark. mature theme gave me hype for this game.

Then that really comes down to a preference of playing. Just because you choose to button mash, doesn't make it a button masher. Although that it's real-time, strategy is involved. That and also the fact it doesn't fall under any genre of 'hack and slash'[QUOTE="Shirokishi_"][QUOTE="supa_badman"] If there's a menu and different catorgories for different spells and items, in game, then it really doesn't qualify as a 'button masher'.supa_badman

Well, atleast those who have played it.
I like that they're trying something different story-wise with the dark atmosphere and such....but I'm not so jazzed about where they're taking the battle system.
Seem's like they're trying to change the wrong aspects of the game. The battle system is fine how it is, they should improve on weaker aspects of the game like the increasing linearity and weakening character development.

KH (especially 2) had the best gameplay of any FF universe game.
Real time >>>>>>>>> turn based,
Why so many RPG gamers like redundant gameplay mechanics is beyond me.

I see what you're saying. You hit the X button a lot, it is more action oriented than Final Fantasy usually is. I would say Kingdom Hearts is Hacknslash/RPG. The combat is so because the player 'hacks' and 'slashes' their way through all the enemies. Personally excited, I can see how people wouldn't be though.I guess I'm the only person that loved KH and KH2.... I guess you could button mash it, but i think against some of the stronger enemies it surely wouldn't work.....
Besides, everyone seems to hate KH and call it a button masher, but everyone loves the God of War series and it's definitely a button masher way more than KH.
I hated KH because it was so damn kiddy. I had no problems with the battle system.I guess I'm the only person that loved KH and KH2.... I guess you could button mash it, but i think against some of the stronger enemies it surely wouldn't work.....

Your not alone. Most modern players prefer real time.
Sure KH was somewhat "kiddy" but I don't think it was over the top kiddy as much as it could have been with all the Disney stuff in it. I thought it was well done.
Definetly one of my top 3 PS2 games.

I'll wait until it comes down in price, way down in price. I typically only buy games that are numbered in a series.

2 people who know what they're talking about! Yay! KH wasn't a button-masher, it only was if you chose to just attack. Just like a fighting game, sure, you can spam a right hook, OR you can go a little deeper and do something more in-depth and trickier. Same deal with KH. KH's combat system is probably the best fast-paced action RPG combat yet, and they're mixing it with Dirge of Cerberus' targeting/approach mechanic, which altogether = awesome. Basically, think of Dirge of Cerberus' combat tweaked to perfection, with the fast-paced action of Kingdom Hearts, with the acrobatic style of Advent Children. I'm sorry...how is that not awesome?I actually disagree with this. While I absolutely HATE KH and all it's campy Disney crap, the style of fighting was well designed. well the kh style would be fine, if it was harder and actually required thinking. Kingdom Hearts 1 was better than 2 in this aspect, and I would expect a proper final fnatasy game to blow it out of the water.

Comparing fighters and KHs combat is absolutely ridiculous, but Ill bite. Fighters require button combinations, what does KH require? The X button. Fighters have depth in that aspect, KH doesnt.
You know what, the problem isnt even that all you do is press the X button, the problem is that all you have next to magic is the same combo string over and over and all you have to do to pull it off is mash the X button. If Square wouldve added atleast 1 more combo string with maybe the triangle button like many hack and slashes have I wouldnt be so hard on KH.
Is it among the fastest action RPGs out there. Sure.
The best? No, its too shallow.
People are so drawn off by the fact that the battles are so out there and balls to the wall crazy fast that they dont realize that all theyre doing is pressing X and occasionally jumping/dodging.
With all that said, KH is a great quality series, but it doesnt fair well in the combat department.

I used to enjoy turn based until I played Rogue Galaxy. After beating Rogue Galaxy, turn based bores me.
