Have had these 2 games sitting on my shelf for a while now and really mean to get round to playing them (oh and both are PS3 versions if that makes any difference?). Just wondering which ones best? Just for reference some of my favourite RPG's ever are Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia. Based on this which one do you think I will prefer and should play first? Thanks.

I'd say play Eternal Sonata first, it is more like the Tales series. The only down side is lack of trophies. FFXIII is a lot different from it's elders, AI controls your party, and the game doesn't get Interesting until about 3/4 into it. Cool thing is that If you get specific trophies in the game they unlock Themes for your XMB. :)

Ah cool, thanks for the advice. Yea thought Eternal Sonata looked more like Tales but but can't be sure just by looks alone. Oh and I don't give a crap about trophies so no worries there :P

Anyone else got any suggestions?

They're both pretty cool, but I prefer Eternal Sonata. And yeah, it does remind me of the Tales series in a way, but mostly because of the art style. It really is pretty different.

I'd recommend playing anything other than FFXIII. Just sit there pressing X while the computer does all the playing for you. After 15 hours of that, I didn't even feel like turning my PS3 on for two weeks.

That's a tough one - both are varying degrees of awful. I'd play Eternal Sonata. The battle system is engaging enough that it should carry you through the game, plus the graphics are nice and cutesy and the music isn't bad. The characters and story, however...well, you'll see. It's enough to almost completely ruin the game, although that didn't stop me from playing it through to completion on the 360. FFXIII is also beautiful, good music, and a battle system that's...well, it's unique. Its characters are less outwardly offensive than Eternal Sonata's (other than Vanille), but its story is also far less interesting (if less insane). If you have trouble with insomnia, FFXIII is a good cure.

I would say Eternal Sonata. The main downside is the fact that the scenes take too long to watch, unless you would skip them, it will take a while till you get to play. The final fantasy XIII scenes are better and have action in it, but i would play Eternal Sonata first. P.S. Good thing you have Eternal Sonata on ps3 because there are more stuff than the xbox 360 version

FF13 may be far from perfect but i enjoyed it much more then eternal sonata. I would suggest FF13 just know that it takes a long time to pick up and get interesting.

I say Eternal Sonata, (until something better comes out, maybe Tales Of Graces F) it's the best JRPG for PS3!!

I thought Eternal Sontata was a terrible example of everything wrong with the jrpg genre, I loved it for the musicand theme but some of the cutscenes were absolutely awful and so drawn out. FFXIII is imo the better game even with its own problems.

I never played Eternal Sonata, but I was really disapointed with FF13. It just didn't live up to my past experiences with other FF games, a series in which has been one of my favorites for a long time. It was way to linear for most of the game (I know that has been said countless times, but IMO, it's so true). BUT, it is very pretty and does have some very memorable moments, so don't pass it up completely. I am looking forwards to FF13-2, if it is slightly better or less-linear than the first one, I'll definately pick it up.
