Make sure you turn DNie off if possible on that set. If it is not possible to turn it off, you should consider returning it.

You shouldn't be bragging about owning a slimfit. Why didnt you pick up a reliable CRT if you needed to go the CRT route?

Did you do any research before buying? Dnie crushes detail in black and white while ruining detail in most conditions. DNie is a way of altering the strength of the backlight on different portions of the screen to give 'darker' blacks and whiter whites. In effect, it turns a mediocre picture to a terrible one. There is no reason to EVER have it on. Please tell me that you at least took the set out of torch mode... what settings are you using (contrast, brightness, sharpness...)?

Yeah, well at least DNie is off. Make sure you go through a full calibration.. start with the 'Movie' setting and work from there. You should pick up a copy of Avia to fully calibrate the set to the best of your abilities. In general, the backlight should be in the lower 25%, sharpness to 0, contrast to 80 or so, brightness in the 50-75%. These are just guesses based on work I have done with other Sammy panels, but you should get it out of Dynamic mode ASAP.

So that your tv doesn't look like total inaccurate garbage. Every tv should be calibrated every 6 months or so. Do you want the whites to look like white, or like a neon bright white (typical for most manufacturer settings). Do you want to see the details in the shadows and have deep blacks? Maybe if you don't care about the quality of your picture you shouldn't have made the HD leap.

Too bad the picture is nowhere near accurate or even at 50% of its capabilities, but whatever, you bought a budget set anyway.

Congarts!!! i have a 42" Sony Wega but i had it way before i got my ps3. If money is the problem, a hdtv-ready well also do the job. But if you want to also watch hd channels go with a hadtv-built in.

Run through some basic tests, it will fail pattern tests, black quality tests, and almost anything in regards to PQ. The fact that you think it looks good is just the brainwashing of being in too many Best Buys. A good picture should look identical to things you see in real life, it should not have that 'pop' factor that sticks out on the showroom floor. Turn DNie on, and look at a dark scene that also contains some bright parts of the screen. It will be a complete mess, especially if there is action as well. DNie is one of the worst ideas to come into the tv industry in the past 5 years.

I'm from Portugal, so i've never set foot to a BestBuy, Gamestop, Ebgames or anything like that. Anyway, from what i can see it seems i don't have the option to turn it off, the only thing i can turn on or off in the "picture" settings is the Mode (dynamic, movie, etc.) the size (16:9) the Digital NR (wich is on) the DNIe demo (on or off, half the image is set to on, and half the image is set to off) and the PIP.

Don't listen to him.  Just visit this link, much easier.  Its a video that shows you how to calibrate your LCD.

You can use any Pixar DVD since 2001, each has a video calibration utility.

Do't do it. I bought a 720p/1080i TV back in november just so I could enjoy HD PS3 gaming. While it was great and all I just always had this feeling like im not doing my ps3 justice so I went out and bought a 1080p TV and now I feel almost complete. (I need a HDMI receiver now). My advice is to just wait till you can afford the 1080p.

Go to this site.  IMO, its the best site to find good deals on hdtv's (better than Froggle or Yahoo shopping IMO).
