Criterion is focusing on the PS3 in their development of Burnout 5. HDMI, 1080p, SIXAXIS, and "advanced processing capabilities" are listed as the reasons. http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbox360/games/features/109250.shtml

Burnout 5 may find release on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but for the Criterion team, the PS3 version will be a huge focus. While Ward did say that it was simply too early to be able to accurately predict exactly what would be in either release, he noted that the team is attacking the PS3 with the same fervency they did the PS2. 1080p over HDMI, for instance, just isn't possible on the 360 at this point, although it's a foregone conclusion on the PS3. The PS3's Sixaxis controller will provide additional control options the 360's doesn't have. Plus, the PS3's advanced processing capabilities make it particularly suited to the physics-intensive crashes that are going to be taking place.

Imagine that.  Whodathunkit.  Shoot, maybe some other devs will start reading the PS3 dev kit manuals on their bathroom breaks.

Devs are finally realising the power of the ps3 and the capabilities this gives them alot of freedom to make a great game, Blu ray disk, Cell power, HDD and everything else! those are all good things that the X360 doesnt have and this limits developers from doing more things in a game. In a few years we will see the great difference between ps3 games and x360s and what advantages the ps3 brought to developers so they can make better games.

LOL Nice.

This combined with Factor 5 saying that it's easier to start with PS3 and port to the 360 rather than the other way around may actually get some lazy ass developers to pay attention and not make crappy ports cause they couldn't be bothered. *cough*Ubisoft*cough*

more developers will follow soon. PS3 is still a new console, I expect most if not all multiplatform titles to be created on PS3 first by the end of the year or early next year

Good'ol Burnout.  I really hope they do a good job here and create some draw dropping stuff.  This game has really evolved into a great series.

Burnout was a surprise favorite of mine over the last couple of years, the concept sounded so dumb, but I rented  it... I'm like Why didn't I think of that; sports cars ramming things for points!

Now I can't wait to see it on the PS3

yeah..burnout on ps3 and being developed mainly for ps3 is great:

first make it ps3 and the port it to other systems, but i think since it is multiplataform they`ll have to keep it  low enough so the 360 can reach it.

I doubt it. The whole point of developing for the PS3 is so that they can solely focus on what technology the PS3 has to offer and optimizing the game for it.

Should the decision be made to port it later, than the company can worry about possibly downgrading it to fit onto other systems.

well there was an article not long ago about how pc's too are switching to multi-core processors so programers will eventually have to step up and get with the times. if there's all that power why not take advantage of it on the PS3? miss out because of laziness or not being USED to programming for this system? it's the NEXT GENERATION for christ's sake. of course you're not going to be USED to it. how do you expect hardware and system capabilities to get better but stay the same? wtf?  yeah that makes a lot of sense. lol.

Hopefully they use the processor power in a newly done Crash Mode.  There is nothing more fun than launching a Ferrari esque car off a ramp knockin over a semi on the bridge adn then landing in the underpass and cloggin up another 200 cars. lol

I think we are going to see a shift in people developing for the ps3 and porting downwards as its much easier. I just hope they don't abandon the ps3 because of slower sales.

Now why would games have to downgraded to port over to the 360? Hmm last time I checked the modified version of the 7800gtx that's in the PS3 was about 3 generations behind the r600 that's in the 360. Downgraded I think not and stop posting like any of you actually know what you're talking when it comes to programming for any of these systems.

Pretty sure that quote was only referring to it being easier to port a game to the 360 than it is to the PS3.  It didn't say anything about it being easier to develop from the ground up on the PS3 (I could be wrong), in fact the concensus is quite the opposite.  It was just talking about how just porting to the PS3 from the 360 is a chore.

the GPU is just a little better on the 360 so that's the only thing fanboys can brag about(when I say little, I mean LITTLE). so they have to make it seem like it's the biggest part of the entire console.

Well, considering that the PS3 has just come out and the Xbox is in full swing and yet the games are comparable on both systems, I'd say that PS3 has a lot of potential if companies would develop games specifically for it and expand on that potential.

I heard they put flames on their GPU so it would go faster though!!!

Why don't children such as this at least make an attempt to understand that there's more to greating a great looking game then the video card?  I do however agree with one of your points "stop posting like any of you actually know what you're talking when it comes to programming for any of these systems. It's been said many times by multiple developers that Sony is doing a top notch job with development tools this go around.   The atrocious pronunciation of the English language, PS2, and Resident Evil don't play a role this time.

I agree.......

quit throwing numbers around that you have no idea what they mean.

Well, considering that the PS3 has just come out and the Xbox is in full swing and yet the games are comparable on both systems, I'd say that PS3 has a lot of potential if companies would develop games specifically for it and expand on that potential.

except there is nothing on par with gears on ps3 or anytime in the near future ...

lol!!!!!!!!!!!! well actually in 1 game? no, but in graphics: i have 2 say that genji can b compared 2 gears graphically, but gears do look better though(IMO), but very barely, but the gameplay sucks. In the action department: i have 2 give it 2 resistance (due 2 the fact that it's more action going on at once than gears, it's a longer game, and the online play can b argued on what is better), but the graphics isn't with gears though. So the catch is; both of these games r launch games and they can b compared 2 gears (the 360 best looking/most popular game) after a whole year in developement with the game (gears again) with it being stated that the ps3 is a hard system 2 develope 4. So going by all of this, all i would have 2 say 2 u is;"don't go counting ur eggs 2 soon jr."

emitsu97

What's par? Three casual days worth of entertainment?

:D Nicely done.

How about Oblivion?

Oh I'm sorry. A graphically enhanced (slight as it may be), loading time enhanced (of grave importance), reliable experience with Oblivion?

Yea...I'm set for the next 200 hours of gameplay.

The GPU is the MAIN reason for todays graphics. The GPU has been and probably always be the most complicated and powerful component to a system. In just about every case the GPU is what decides how great a game looks with the CPU being secondary. So why wouldn't I talk about the GPU and when it comes to graphics.

For the person that said the 360 GPU is "slightly" better ummm try 3 generations better. 7800, 7900, 7950, 8800 and the 360 GPU is a slightly modifed version of the not YET released R600 from ATI code named x2900

they did a graph comparioson, and while i won't say barely, i sure enough wouldn't say a drastic advantage over the ps3, ohh and cpu is just as important as the gpu as physics and how much is going on (depending on the game) all is on the cpu. thank you very much!

What comparison are YOU talking about. Don't try and tell me the 7800 in the PS3 is only "slightly" less powerful than the R600 that as of right now is blowing away the 8800.

Oh and what does physics have to do with the graphics and the GPU? You just made my point that when it comes to graphics the GPU is what's more important.
