I have been in love with the MGS games since the first one on PS1, even buying twin snakes to play it again. The second one was one of my favorites with the exception of raiden, i have gotten 100% dogtags on 3 levels settings and still love the game. I bought MGS 3 as soon as it came out but for some reason had a hard time getting into it, as much fun as it was. I never completed the story line, quitting when i got to the large base.

It's my understanding that PO takes place after MGS 3. My only question is should i complete MGS 3 before i buy and play MGS PO, will it ruin the story line?

Heaven forbid you should play a Metal Gear game and it not make sense! Seriously, I never made it much past the 30 or so minute (based on how long it felt, anyway) cutscene for MGS3, so I can't offer you much useful advice.

Ahh thanks, i never did uncover much of the storyline for 3 but figured we were playin as big boss. So MPO is still big boss? This sounds good, ill have to beat 3 then.

So i guess the most logical order to play these games is MGS 3, MGSPO, MGS 1/Twin Snakes, MGS 2, then the new one comin out for ps3?

I forgot about the NES version, i bought it at slackers a year ago, loved it. Very dissapointed they never brought the true sequel to north america. What is cool is both the origional MG and MG2 are both on MGS 3: subsistence. Now im thinking of trading in my normal copy of MGS3 for subsistence to get some old school snake gaming..

And to GC4ever, yes it's dumb. After i wrote this i thought, i like this series so much it's stupid not to beat 3.

Yes, PO will spoil things for you if you haven't beat MGS3.

Beat MGS3 then beat MGS PO

Make sure you get MGS3 : Subsistence. You were probably playing Snake Eater, which has a lousy fixed camera, so you lost interest.

Short and to the point.

Thanks everyone for the advice and info. I need to pick up a copy of subsistence because, yes i was playing snake eater and the camera did get on my nerves.Plus the two original Metal Gear games from the MSX are a great bonus on the subsistence copy.

if you dont have the time to do so, you can read a plot summary of it on wikipedia.

First of all i dont smell. Second who here owns the original metal gear for the NES? Love that game, thats a true fan. But to be honest im not sure why i really quit. 3 didn't hold me as much as MGS or MGS2. Maybei was expecting too much from it, maybe i didnt like the jungle over the industrial aspect of 2. Not real sure whyi gave up, i was doing great in it too.

But i started a new game in it and have put in a few hours. I still have my old save game on it, sucks because i don't remember the story up to that point.

I do. I have that and Snake's Revenge, and I don't even think I'm a huge MGS fan. I like the series a lot. But it's not one of my top three.

Yep. And in my opinion, MGS3 was the best of all of them. The ending was so moving it's unbelievable. It kicks you on the nuts, spits on your face and steals your fancy car.
