more like 2.0. i would like something like, xbox to scroll threw my stuff instead of that boring black with just symbols. its so, plain. and how about a mic. instead of 50 million differnet blue tooths. i dont get why you have to press the ps button when your pluged in. to get a signal. thats retarded. the interface is so complitcated its really not user friendly right off the bat. what about video chat. this whole thing seems like its still in beta. they need to go to like 4.5, they got a lot of work ahead of themselfs compared to how easy my 360 is.F1sTDaCuffS
There is video chat. And I find the 360s menu system cluttered and far less user friendly. I was far more comfortable navigating the xmb compared to 360s. Â
I don't know what you mean by scroll through stuff, but a search feature for music would be nice since I have a lot.
Just pick up that datel USB headset if you're uncomfortable with bluetooth.
Pressing the PS button is far less of a hassel than changing batteries.Â

Is not that the XMB is complicated, is just that we have used the 360 dashboard for more than a year... when I started using my PS3 I tought the XMB was more complicated, but beacuse I was searching for the BASIC features that I tought it would have (like a custom XMB wallpaper) and since they dont exis I tough it was so hard to find them. now Im not a 360 fanboy, I bought my PS3 a couple of days ago and even tough there arent many games on it right now Im loving it, and Im looking forward to the future of the console. But I have to admit that the XMB (compared to the 360 dashboard) still needs A LOT of improvement.

Agreed.
IMO, the XMB has a long way to go before matching the x360's dashboard. At least give me the option to customize the background.

we are talking about design of the user interface, not the options of the OS.OS options have no effect on the complexity of the user interface. So being able to do a custom background would make the user interface easier to use?We ae talking about necesary upgrades to the PS3, including user interface and even options in OS

there was also a rumor that the april home beta was closed to certain people and limited to 15,000 users. So with that in mind, I feel that its very likely HOME will not be a part of the next update. With the number of ps3 owners, it will even be pretty difficult to get into the 50,000 user beta in August.
The only thing I would really want in the next update is allow me to access the xmb while in a game or movie, and read and send messages and listen to music over the game.
I don't really care what the background of the xmb is, I don't spend all that much time staring at it and admiring it, so I actually like that its a very simplistic design.Â
Agreed. with Home Beta being closed, I wouldn't think Sony would include it in an update that every PS3 owner would get.there was also a rumor that the april home beta was closed to certain people and limited to 15,000 users. make it so that you can customize the interface and make it so that you could pull up the xmb in game by holding the ps button. this would allow you to play music, message people, watch movies, all without exiting the game. but in order for this to work, you would have to allow music playback while you are still playing the game, this would take care of custom soundtracks, you would just save a playlist as madden, so that when you play madden, you have your soundtrack right there.
another thing that they could add would be voice messaging. that would help too.
I will tell you one thing, you will never be able to watch a movie while you are playing a game. That is just not possible on this generation of consoles.make it so that you can customize the interface and make it so that you could pull up the xmb in game by holding the ps button. this would allow you to play music, message people, watch movies, all without exiting the game. but in order for this to work, you would have to allow music playback while you are still playing the game, this would take care of custom soundtracks, you would just save a playlist as madden, so that when you play madden, you have your soundtrack right there.

Custom Soundtracks anyone?liamabob

if i were sony i would not waste one kb of effort on it, think its a waste of time.Â
xbm customization is needed..daveg1
I'm just curious what your reasons are behind it being needed. Do you spend that much time on the xmb that its appearance bothers you?Â

wallpapers is such a trivial thing, it's not like it make any diffrence as well.Â
Not sure how feasible this is but I would love some sort of improved Ipod interface. All my music is on my Ipod and I primarily got a 60 gig thinking that I'd be able to transfer music files on to it. I can do that now but it's really more complicated than need be. So to add on to what some people are saying: custom soundtracks and improved ipod useage. CyanX73it's not that complicated. all you have to do is copy them to the HDD.

I would think the same way you do if I didn't own an x360.
Customizing the XMB would be a nice way to give your PS3 a bit of personality. I think the only people hostile to such a notion are PS3 Fanboys.
to answer the question and sticking to the topic I think the XMB layered over games or movies is a great option. I want to be able to send and read messages while surfing the net, watching movies and playing games. If i can video chat while doing other things that will be nice too. just to have a little PIP screen in any corner of the screen where you can see the other person and they see you and still watch a movie or surf the web. Custom backgrounds is not that important to me.
I will like to see old games like Motorstorm and F1 CE add rumble as an update (outside of a firmware update).
I would like some way to create folders to organize my hundreds of pictures into much smaller folder other than by months same with videos. Vidoes could go into a Trailers folder game/movie and your personal uploaded movies go into their own folders. Updated Flash Player and Maybe Quicktime for more video viewing options in the web brower.
And how about a service like Itunes for movie and music downloads within the PS Store sony have their own Movie and Music labels studios or whatever it is that will allow them to do this. I don't see why this isn't possible.
other than those ideas everything else is OK or fine for now. I know it will eventually evole into something greater

All of my buddies in my house at school have 360s, so I've had my experience with the dashboard and Live. I choose PS3 because I just never got used to the 360s controller (might sound dumb to you but whatever). Point being I've used the Dashboard quite extensively.
Anyway, I'm in no way hostile to the notion. I just know for the amount of time I actually need to spend on the XMB, it seems like people would be far more concerned with getting in-game messaging and other things that actually enhance the experience of playing games rather than something that they'll see for like a few minutes. It was the fact that he said "needed". I do agree that it would be nice to have.
