[QUOTE="luludooobee111"]What is the update?Andrew_Xavier
Fixes some online stability problems, nothing more.
HOLY CRAP i gotta get it then!
And how bloody long does it take to down load a few bug fixes: 20 minutes so far and only 33% done. I only turned it on to play COD4 before heading of to work.
:(

20 mins? DAMN! It only took me around 5. BTW what the hell does 2.17 do (specifically)?
I am gonna test in a minute but from what I have read elsewhere you can BACK-UP certain PS2 titles to the HD, Obviously if you have BC system
Scrub that
It updates the ability of games such as FFXI to install there bits like on the PS2 HD

If you've signed in to the PLAYSTATION Network tonight on your PS3, you probably noticed that you were prompted to upgrade the system's firmware to v2.17. In case you were wondering what it's all about (and a quick Google search indicates that yes, you are) the operating stability of some online PS3 titles has been improved.
1) Yeah smaller number is a smaller update, but .07 should so something more. If you look at the early updates this is more like a 2.11 update....
2) Instead of fixing the online stability of some games could Sony maybe fix the online stability of the freaking ps3..... And before people tell me it is my internet or something I got cable modem, network sharing off, the info bar thing off and I am hardwired to the modem.... Probably likelier that this is an issue to earlier models since it is known that they moved stuff around in the 80gb due to issues (I got a 60gb)
Stop whining.
Just DL the freaking update and STFU.
I would so love if Sony didn't do updates, that would teach alot of you impatient and whiny little kids a lesson.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Regardless of what kind of an update it is - it makes our console positively improved.
I don't understand what's with all the eight years old attitude...
[QUOTE="Speedeamon-14"]Yea, I dont know why they called it 2.17... Like you said 2.11 would be more suitable.emitsu97
You guys honestly believe you know enough about this update to correct Sony?! Really?! I mean, REALLY?!?!
exactly. This guys are talking about the update like they were the ones that made it!You guys should reduce to your insignificance and only complain when you have something to complain, because complaining ALL THE FREAKING TIME is not right.

I have a Day 1 launch 60GB with Media Server Disabled, Info bar off, wireless @ 100% signal and I have no dc issues whatsoever. The connection is also shared with a wireless notebook a wired PC and a PSP.

And what was I complaining about? Seriously, I was just wondering .17 instead of say .16. Thats not a complaint, thats just something I was wondering about. Every one else here is complaining about no "real content", however I appreciate the fact that sony takes the time to update thier platform.
Well if you guys knew anything about version numbering, you would know that the more decimal places you go in, the less signifigant of an update. i.e. 1.0 to 2.0 is huge, 2.1 to 2.2 is large but nothing huge or great, and 2.1 to 2.17 really isnt much, just something small. I have seen updates get as small as say 2.17.1. Its not like sony promised you guys an update or anything anyways...Speedeamon-14Which is not something Sony is being doing right now... According to that logic, upgrade 2.0 would have being seriously big... like Home or in-game XMB big... But it wasn't.

I know... I would have assumed they would have gone to 2.0 with home, im not even sure what marked 2.0. But typically, atleast in the MMOs I have played, 1.0-2.0 is usually pretty signifigant.

I think they move to 2.0 because they were running out of numbers (last one before that I think it was 1.97).

Sony has previously stated they don't reserve firmware update numbers for specific things. It's just a means of marking progression.

I don't know, but I would take his word over yours anyday. I think he knows a few more things about this upgrade than a random guy in a random forum. If that is all there is, and there is no big functionality under the hood (which would be a violation of antitrust), then it is a lame upgrade, and one that is not worth a .07 change.

So you're saying you're better equipped to designate firmware upgrade ID's then Sony...
this firmware update is just a joke, sony released it for 2 reasons.
1. to stop people from getting that 2.15 update that was supposed to have leaked onto the net
2. to stop people from saying xmb will be here in a few weeks because there hasnt been a firmware update in months
now this seems like the most likely excuse but of course as always i think sony are up to something with this update, and its GOOD!!!!!
ok well we all know home is coming soon and i think that this update contains some of Home so the official home update will be smaller. think about it why does this update take so long to download??? if this was to fix some online bugs it should be no bigger than 15mb but this is much larger and id say that there is parts of home in this update. parts that will remain unchanged by the time it is released.
why didnt it tell you what the download did??why didnt the playstation blog give a proper description?(ps blog usually tells you a few days in advance and also gives a full detailed list of what the update will contain)
So you're saying you're better equipped to designate firmware upgrade ID's then Sony...emitsu97Well, since Sony has previously stated they don't reserve firmware update numbers for specific things, as it ussually is made (It's just a means of marking progression), I would say anyone is at least as well equipped as Sony to designate ids...
Heck, I think the next upgrades could be 3, then 5, then 8, then 13, then 21, and so on... is as good as anything.

Sure, why not. If it makes you happy, think what you like.
