Yo, Ever since I dwnlded the update my 60 gig is having problems with PS2 games. Not the games themselves but the HDMI signal. For some reason after I got the update the HDMI cable or the PS3 refuses to carry the signal of ps2 games through the HDMI anymore. If I use the regular composite cables it will play but it the PS3 will not carry the signal through my HDMI anymore. Is anyone else having this problem or is it possible something has gone wrong with my HDMI cable? When I play the PS3 games there is no problem what-so-ever.

I had the same problem before the 1.8 update actually. What kind of TV do you have? My issue was with a JVC...

I have an RCA Flat screen (1080p). I've had no issues until this update. I play my ps1 and 2 games as much as my 3s. Can't figure it out.

I have a 60 gig and haven't had a problem other than a couple of times the game froze and the PS3 had to be restarted to get past this point. I am using a Sony LCD TV.

You guys use component or what? I can't got back to normal resolution. If so how does it compare with HDMI, I know there is a difference but how huge? I mean I play my 360 with HD component and it doesn't look that diff to the naked eye.

I'm using HDMI and still play PS2 games on my 60 gig PS3 with no problem after the 2.40 update.

I had a HUGE problem with this. I was switching back from component to HDMI because I was playing PS2 games on an SDTV. The 360 is so much better at upscaling/downscaling so there's almost no difference but the PS3 doesnt upscale/downscale for you. You have to change it manually and here's where the problem comes in. When you switch from playing on an HDTV via HDMI cable, and you switch to an SDTV, it wont show a picture because the original signal was hdmi. I've had so much headache with this and something as simple as this wasnt included in the PS3... It's dumb, period. I tried the reset trick and it wouldnt work. I dont know if it was the firmware update or what but I couldnt get a picture on my HDTV or SDTV via any cables. I ended up selling it on eBAY "as is, broke" for under $200. And buyer just told me today that he didnt even have to fix it..... He said it worked perfectly fine. And I was like WTF??! I had that thing for a week trying to get it to work and I did everything, believe me. I even called Sony and they troubleshooted it with me and they couldnt even fix it. Miraculously, it worked for that buyer and he's one lucky ass dude who got a 60GB PS3 for under $200. He offered to give it back to me with a refund but I said no at that point. It was too much of a hassle to have it shipped back and all that. A sale is a sale, and it's final under the circumstances and agreement. So that's my PS3 story. Now, I'm just going to buy a 40gig and if I want to play PS2 games, I'll just get a PS2. Problem, friggin, solved!

That's what's driving me crazy dude, it worked fine on my HDTV (the only one in this equation) since I got it back in August of 07. After this firmware update my TV (RCA Flat 32 inch) is not recognizing the signal when I switch to a ps2 or ps1 game.
